How can I use UVNC from over a WAN while using DHCP?

Post by nLinked »

My network computers use DHCP. I don't want to assign them as static. Each computer on the network uses DHCP to get its local IP address, and each one runs UltraVNC 104 RC6 (the latest to date).

How can I connect to a particular computer from over the Internet if the computers are using a DHCP address? Do I have to give the VNC Servers their own unique port number (5901, 5902, etc)?

If so, I can't add that to the router because port forwarding requires them to have a static IP address. Can port triggering help?

i was thinking the same thing but unsuccessfull with linksys triggering

i don't know is a bug of port triggering or not.

the only work around is reserve the position on the dhcp reservation of your router.
so your computer have always same ip without set static ip on the computer :-)

yes linksys seem to have issues with all sorts of things. Most of them will not support IP reservations as well.. I like to stick with netgear and seem to have better luck the entire way around..:)
