VNC Repeater Problem [Solved]

Post by g8rbyte »

Alright here is what I have a problem with the VNC Repeater.

I have a network in which I have one computer that I want to set up as the VNC repeater server. It is running on the default port that comes preinstalled. I have port forwarded 5900 through5903 and 5800 (for java http) to and ip on the network.

When i connect using the vnc viewer it stops at "negotiating protocol version." I am thinking that maybe it is a firewall issue. Or perhaps I have not port forward the correct one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using SCIII? if so you have to have port 443 just forwarded and not shared to make it work..

If you are using standard single click I would think you have an issue with forwarding.

The FAQ subtopic has some ideas for help in troubleshooting this issue

just using the one that comes with the server installer (1.02). Do i need the scIII? And i don't really care for the encryption so much as anyone that is going to be using this is going to have to know more about computers, routers, and networks in general.

I am trying to set it up using mode 1. i want to be able to access the server than connect to any computer on the network that has vnc running.

Thanks,

Ok that is the standard repeater.. You will not need port 443 only the ports open and forwarded to your repeater computer

You can use mode I if you choose too but I always used mode II

If you are trying to provide helpdesk support for family friends etc you might want to look into pchelpware..:)

I figured it out. After much researching on the docs and online help I found the problem was a couple of things.

1. Port 5500 was not open on the router. I was under the impression that I just had to have 5900 and 5800 open.

2. when I was connecting to the computer i didn't have port 5901 as the repeater/proxy port number.

3. also the windows firewall on the computer that I was connecting to didn't have the vnc server exception in it.

Thanks bevtech for all the help.
