New UVNC User, I have some questions

Post by longball07 »

Hello everyone, nubby here. I am an IT Manager and for years I have used PCAnywhere to connect to off-site clients who need assistance. This works perfect if I have access to there network VPN or whatever, but I have a handful of clients I can't connect through PCAnywhere. I was curious if with UVNC SingleClick or another VNC product, would it be possible to do the following. I would set up a PC that has a public IP Address that would act like a server. I then would create and executable file that I would link to a website and I would direct a client to go to a specific url and run that said exe file. I would want to connect to them using the same or a similar exe file from said website. This would all go through that PC that has a public IP Address. Is this possible, not sure if I explained it well enough or not. So in short, there would be PC A (w/ public IP) PC B (client behind router) PC C (Me behind router). PC C needs to connect to PC B without router configuration, I thought I could set something up on PC A (as a server or something) and go though that. I have read through lots of topics on here but nothings quite answers my questions, and if it does I guess I didn't understand it. Thanks everyone.

You're describing using a repeater. [topic=9663]"Zero Configuration" PcHelpWare_viewer[/topic] shows an example of how you could do this with PcHelpWare which is similar to SingleClick. You can use the repeater01.ultravnc.info repeater to test it out, but you should set up your own repeater on PC A.

Are there instructions anywhere on how to setup your own repeater? I will read those instructions, maybe it tells me in there?

Also would I follow those instructions and setup VNC PCHelpWare on PC A (server), and that is the only place I would have to configure anything. Thank you for your help in advance.

[topic=5890]Repeater Step by Step[/topic] talks about the UltraVNC repeater and [topic=5890]PcHelpware Step by Step[/topic] talks about the PcHelpWare repeater. Personally, I use the PcHelpWare repeater for both PcHelpWare and UltraVNC connections. I don't know if the UltraVNC repeater is compatible with PcHelpWare.

You'd set up the PcHelpWare repeater on PC A and then create your PcHelpWare_Server to use it similar to the Zero Config post. The executable it produces is what you'd need to send to customers.
