Mirror Driver Compatability
Mirror Driver Compatability
This was a question I posted in December of 2006, but got no answer to. Am looking to deploy UltraVNC, but still have the same problem. The UltraVNC Mirror Driver is not compatible with many HP workstations and laptops that have video accelerators. After installed, once a connection is established, the PC will instantly crash and reboot. Uninstalling the video accelerator resolves the problem. Again, this is not one or two computers i'm working with, but around 500 various HP systems, using vdeo cards from nVidia and ATI.
Re: Mirror Driver Compatability - and more driver questions
Hello,
that would interest me, too.
Some more things about the mirror driver that weren't answered in the FAQ:
1. Network traffic
The homepage (http://www.uvnc.com/features/driver.html) and the FAQ ([topic=609][/topic]) speak of the reduced CPU load with the new driver. What about the network traffic, is it seriously affected by the mirror driver - either positively or negatively?
2. Defect in ZIP-File
Yesterday, the downloads I tried from Driver-102.zip and silent driver both could not be opened: "Corrupt ZIP-File". Unfortunately, I don't remember which download server it was. (Perhaps Ireland or Netherlands?) Today I tried again, and it was OK. (This time from France.)
3. Windows compatibility
The official feature page (http://www.uvnc.com/features/driver.html) tells "This driver works on W2000 and Win2003." You want to mention XP?
Thanks, bye.

Re: Mirror Driver Compatability
Driver 102 Compatibel W2K>= (Not Vista)
Driver RC5 W2K >= (Including Vista)
Drivers can't be mixed, 102 driver differ total from the RC5 driver.
Native nvidia and ATI has been tested. Some OEM vendors make special drivers for the ATI or Nvidia chipset and do some acceleration benchmark on boot. Thoose drivers can cause trouble, the expect that all video is there branch and can crash when they detect a mirror driver.
We don't have an exact list, but 95% it will work without trouble.

Re: Mirror Driver Compatability - network
Thank you for information regarding the compatibility to Windows and graphic cards.
Does the mirror driver increase or reduce network traffic - I mean, do you recommend it for slow dial-up connections?

Re: Mirror Driver Compatability
That is a tuff question basically dail-up connections are so limited that i would use the vnc viewer option of slowDoes the mirror driver increase or reduce network traffic - I mean, do you recommend it for slow dial-up connections?

Yes, the driver also increases the perfs over slow dial-up connectionsdirk123 wrote:Thank you for information regarding the compatibility to Windows and graphic cards.
