Hi,
I'm trying to run a PcHelpWare_server.exe on Windows Vista connecting to a PcHelpWare viewer on an XP machine without success.
The error i got is (translated from another language):
Failed to connect
The name is valid, no data of the requested type was found
Init Network Failed
I've tryed to create appropriate rules on the Windows Firewall and also to disable at all Windows Firewall.
I think that all the parameters on the viewer and on the server are correct because trying the same server exe file on another pc with XP works fine.
I use the dyndns with uvnc.com and I have also downloaded the two new dll and copied (and substitute) it in the viewer main folder.
Any suggestions ore possible solutions?
Thanks in advance
P.S. I have sarched over the whole forum without find any useful topic about this specific problem... if I'm wrong sorry for this topic.

Init Network Failed on Vista Server
Re: Init Network Failed on Vista Server
I would use the microsoft portqry tool to check to make sure that the ports you are using with pchelpware are actually open.
Make sure that your router has port forwarding set along with your machine getting the same ip address everytime. If your machine is dynamic and your have the ports set to a specific ip it can cause this problem..

Re: Init Network Failed on Vista Server
You refer to the server or the viewer?
Sorry but I don't think that this is the problem.
The server run on a Pc directly connected to internet with dynamic IP assigned from internet provider via modem ADSL.
The viewer run on a Pc connected through a modem/router ADSL and the IP of the LAN are static.
I have tested the viewer with another Pc with XP shortly before the test with the Vista Pc... and all works fine.

Re: Init Network Failed on Vista Server
Are the computers all in the same network behind the same router in the same subnet??
Is the sever in a corperate network behind a complex firewall??
Init failed basically means that not connection can be detected..

Re: Init Network Failed on Vista Server
Thanks for the replies, and for the help to solve this problem.
No the computers are in different cities, the viewer behind a simple D-Link router where I have opened the ports, the server directly connected to internet.
But now I'm trying for simplicity to test in the same network of the viewer because is simpler than call many times the server in the other city.
The error is server side... I open the viewer and connect it and after when I try to connect the server I will receive the message of error.

Re: Init Network Failed on Vista Server
ok if run the repeater on ports 80 and 443 on the machine that you control
Then setup pchelpware to use those ports in repeater mode that should take care of 98% of network issues..
That is what i do and i can connect 98% of the time using my own repeater

Re: Init Network Failed on Vista Server
But with my own repeater I have to specify the public IP of my LAN every time?
Because I want a system that require NOTHING from server side but double click on PcHelpWare icon and single click on Connect
My connection doesn't have a static public IP, the provider change it sometimes also if I have the router always on.

Use a dynamic dns account to configure your setup that way you never have to reset it up..
I never change mine.. That is how mine works..Because I want a system that require NOTHING from server side but double click on PcHelpWare icon and single click on Connect Smile

Re: Init Network Failed on Vista Server
Thanks for all I will try this way...
Re: Init Network Failed on Vista Server
Another tip:
When testing in LAN make sure you use internal ips and not the wan or dyndns url because a lot of routers will become confused because both the local and internet address are on the same piece of equipment...
This is mentioned in the FAQ subtopic
