UltraVNC SC vs. PC HelpWare

Post by moontear »

Hello everybody,

I read all the FAQs and How-To's in the Forum but I am still unsure what I should do.

I am a single geek to help out my friends from time to time. It would be nice to be able to send them an EXE so I can help them remotely.

As I understood PCHelpWare is supposed to do exactly that and a bit better (due to implemented encryption) than UltraVNC SC.

I do already have a full UltraVNC installation running on my PC for other duties, so why not use that one instead of using yet another software (PCHelpWare).

On my local PC I am not behind a router (in the DMZ), but I am sometimes in other locations which might make a repeater come in handy. From all I saw on the website, the repeater looks like a windows program, from what I read here in the forums, the repater can be set up on a managed hosting server - how so if that is a *NIX server?

I personally perfer pchelpware, other users may disagree.

I also use a repeater you dont have to if you are the only one but it may come in handy..

Try the pchelpware zero configuration setup first see if you can get it working before attempting to configure it yourself.. It is found in as a stickie in the pchelpware subtopic

Tried the Zero Configuration and have to say that I am amazed. Only problem is that I really don't like the "simple" implementation of PC HelpWare. It is stated as a pro that it got rid of the "old" file browser for file transfers and now you can use drag & drop - fine, but I really still want the file browser. Will suggest this in the pchelpware forum and I am working now on a single click ultravnc install - it's only harder to set up the repeater isn't it?
