Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large
Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large
Trying to connect from a work computer to one of two home computers behind a router. Using Java...port 8080. I get to the logon screen and it very briefly flashes and I get this message: "Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large". I can connect to my wife's computer fine using Java...port 5800 but not mine. Port forwarding is set correctly.
Using latest version of UVNC (downloaded a couple of days ago) on XP Pro SP2.
Any idea on how to fix this?
Thnx.

Re: Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large
Does anybody know a solution to this as I have the same problem.
I want to do the same as fitz 6544 and connect to my home PC from work. I cannot install any software from there but I can use a java enabled browser.
I will be using a router but I have set up port forwarding.
When I try to connect through my home LAN from another PC which doesn't go anywhere near the router (it uses a seperate network switch) I still get the same message:
"Error: Frambuffer update rectangle too large: 0x0 at (63972, 59005)
If it makes a difference then the ultravnc server is installed on a 64 bit PC running Windows XP Pro 64 bit edition and I am trying to connect from a 32 bit desktop running Windows XP Pro 32 bit edition.
I have also tried to connect from a 64 bit laptop on my home LAN which is running Windows XP Pro 64 bit edition and this gives the same error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large
I'm having the same problem as everyone here. I get a "Framebuffer update rectangle too large" when I try to connect to the server through my browser. I checked the Java console log and it displayed the following message:
RFB server supports protocol version 3.6
RFB server supports protocol version 3.6
VNC authentication succeeded
Desktop name is rfqccrxyz ( xxx.xx.xx.xxx )
Desktop size is 1280 x 1024

at VncViewer.run(VncViewer.java:225)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large: 0x0 at (65024,65072)
Both the server and the machine I'm trying to connect from are 64 bit PCs running Windows XP Service Pack 2. I am using Internet explorer 6.0 and JRE version 1.5.0_09 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM to connect to the server.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re: Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large

Re: Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large
Unfortunately rather Fix 1 nor 2 helped me to solve my problem.
I'm running the UltraVNC Server on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. If i now try to connect via the JavaViewer i get the following error msg:
Framebuffer update rectangle too large: 0x0 at (63972,1730)
what does that mean???
And if i try to connect via the VNC Viewer i only see a black screen.
Every help is welcome!

Re: Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large
With me I have only one monitor, but if I'm connected with remote desktop the VNC works.
Re: Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large
I've been constantly testing/fixing the VNC problems mostly because the problems were somewhat on my end.
I can get the VNC viewer to work on my end using loopback on the original VNC before adding Test1 and 2. I was getting framebuffer too large on the stable 1.0.2 test1 and test 2.
I didn't test the viewer.exe on test1 and 2 because I knew it worked on stable release 1.0.2 which I will revert to since service mode wouldn't work in test1 or 2 anyway.
I will most likely use the .exe viewer than the java but it would be neat/handy to have java access but this does not work for me.

Re: Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large
In my case:
Using firefox in archlinux, with lastest sun's jre, the same error is given.
A workaround i found is in the VNC Authentication screen, chossing the "options" button, in the option "Cursor shape updates", choosing "ignore" or "disable" makes javavnc fully functional, no errors here.
Don't know if this will be useful for others, but at least works in my box.
Regards.

Re: Error: Framebuffer update rectangle too large
I went back to the full stable release (not an RC) that had all the components I needed. And, this error also surprisingly only happens on the same machine I try to connect to. Let me elaborate:
I have tried using the loopback, then using the javavnc on the same machine I am trying to connect to/test that is how I end up with the framebuffer errors. Interesting thing is the software VNC does not generate an error it just causes the desktop to repeat itself a lot.
I have found that the framebuffer does not happen when I connect from a remote machine even if it is on my LAN or at another computer somewhere else but I cannot get the dual screen, I used to be able to get this on RealVNC when it wasn't payware. Would be nice to be able to see both screens sometimes.

Also, I tried disabling my animated transparent cursor and the problem went away. :D
Edit:
Err.. oops. I may have spoke too soon. The error happened again. At least it isn't instant anymore.
Edit2:
Ah, it also happens when I move the mouse off of the main monitor.
(I have dual monitors. For some reason, although it only displays my main monitor, the mouse is positioned as though there are two. I have two screens set to be next to each other, so when i move my mouse to the middle of the VNC window, it's at the edge of the main screen in the remote system.)
Edit3:
I'm using EchoVNC, FYI. Found this thread through Google.
