Let me start off saying that I have been using PCHelpWare since April of this year, (2007) and have found it to be a great help when it comes to supporting some of customers. Thank you developers.
As the host, I do not use a repeater, I have configured my Linksys router to port forward port #5900 to my workstation which runs XP Pro or Vista Business.
Last week, for no reason that I can identify the client cannot connect to me. For example, I have the compiled version of the client on my website. When my customer clicks on "Help" they are prompted to download the client and run it. In the past that program would run and they would be prompted to enter a password and voila, I can see them.
Now, when they run the program it will start to extract then will just float on the toolbar on the bottom of the screen.
I know my router is configured correctly because I can telnet to my external IP on port 5900 and see traffic while I'm debug mode.
Here are some screencaps of my problem:

Thanks in advance for your help.

Since you had used PcHelpWare for several months, if you hadn't changed any setting, most likely this is an issue at the client side.
From the captured screen of your client, I notice these 2 processes are running: Avast (Antivirus program) & r_server (remote admin). I suggest to check if these will conflict with PHW, try to stop them to see if you can make a connection.

You make a very good point, but I already tried that. On my computer and the client PC I turned off all Avast services and got the same result.YY wrote:From the captured screen of your client, I notice these 2 processes are running: Avast (Antivirus program) & r_server (remote admin). It's really odd that I can telnet to port 5900 on my computer from the client computer and connect. That tells me that my router is setup correctly and my ISP is not blocking port 5900.
At this point I'm thinking of starting from scratch and creating a new exe.
Thanks, YY.

redge, I'll recompile and use standard port numbers and post my results. Thanks for your reply last night.redge wrote:reverse mode = 5500 pchelpware_server initiate connect to pchelpware_viewer listen

Re: remote client will not open fully or extract
I should have updated this sooner, sorry about that.
After trying what I thought was everything, I started to notice some other problems with my PC that were unrelated to issues with UltraVNC. For example, I'd lose connections to network drives and sessions with Internet Explorer would just lock up.
I disabled the onboard NIC on my motherboard and installed an Intel PCI network card and all my troubles went away.
Seems the trouble was with a a bad nic.
Thanks for all your help.
