PcHelpWare vs. SC

Post by leesiulung »

I searched for these questions (stickie, site and manual), but feel that I have not received satisfactory answers.

1. What are the other differences between PcHelpWare and SC than what is listed below?

encryption: SC via plugin and PCHW is native
source code: SC is open source and PCHW is proprietary

2. Why is SC not comercially bundling possible from legal aspect? I don't understand the GPL issue. Brief answer should suffice.

3. What is the point of PCHW since SC seems to have all the features of PCHW?

4. Is both SC and PCHW ok to use for commercially purposes? Not as in selling the software, but for service based use i.e. tech support by a commercial company.

5. Why would I choose SC or PCHW over one another?

Any answers or help would be greatly appreciated!

At the moment it seems like SC will be retired in the not so distant future....

I would choose PCHW. SC has forked into SC, RC23 based SC II, 1.0 based SC II and SC III rather than being one single program with different config options. The differences between them seem a bit overlapping too confusing for me to figure out. It is also impossible to figure out wich one is the newest of RC23 based SC II and 1.0 based SC II, so I stayed away from that mess and went for PCHW.

I've simplified PCHW installation by applying the patches and upload the completed installation: [topic=10087][/topic]

2.
SC is open source, you need to give source code on request)
+ you need the aknowledge from the author before push to public.
PCH is freeware (not open source) you can share with commercial product without authorization.

3.
- phw viewer fully scalable phw_server screen, not SC
- pchelpware support keyboard UTF-8 , not SC

4.
don't know.

5.
depend what you waiting function or service support?
free and open-source, you can't count fast answer (depend of free time of users/devevelopper)
commercial, you should have custom support and fast answer, hope.
some new function should not available before a long time on open source or freeware.

If it's such a no-brainer, could you please explain the difference between RC23 based SC II and 1.0 based SC II?

I think what you said is not rational.

It is actually just the opposite. PCHW has a video driver built into the executable. With SC if you do not install the video driver beforehand on the PC you want to control then it is actually the one that runs much slower.
