Wonderful! Uvnc/sc difficult: PChelpWare...

Post by andykem »

Well! What a revelation!

Subject to things like PortForwarding and, I suppose, Repeater problems; PChelpWare is SO straightforward compared with the Uvnc/SC approach. I had struggled for several days before deciding to give PChelpWare a go.

For me: all I needed to do was to make sure my router was PF'd OK and then go thru the Profile making according to the DIRECT method (because I have a Static IP) and... it worked!

I made 2 server profiles along the way. One was using my local network IP via my router and WiFi so I could test it without involving the web; the second was one with my static IP (still using DIRECT) and that was OK too. Indeed, not only did my router let me test the web version using the static IP but when I emailed a zipped-up copy of the created server to my son in Scotland from Southern England... that worked too! Wow! (We both have XP SP2)

I have a router, he does not, so he did not need to deal with that, just allow the Firewall when it asked about the PChelpWare server. But, if my son wants to use PChelpWare he will have to understand the REPEATER method for setting up his profiles, so as to cope with the varying IP addresses. Although, my previous experience is that they do not change all that often.

Good Luck to anyone else thinking of using PChelpWare. I would be surprised if it was not a lot more pleasant than sticking with Uvnc/SC.
Regards
Andy

Only thing is... I find PcHelpware much slower and thus a lot less pleasant than sticking with Uvnc/SC. More pleasant to setup and get logged onto 2nd users pc, but more importantly... less pleasant to use.
