Different ports for different viewers
Different ports for different viewers
I have been using SC very happily for a while but have just noticed PHW.
With our existing setup the viewers listen on router address eg. 10.0.10.10:5506 etc.
while the helpdesk.txt files for creating the servers look to our static-ip eg 62.123.123.123:5506.
Each port from 5501-5518 has its own forwarding on our router to the appropriate pc.
Can the same sort of setup be done using PHW.

Re: Different ports for different viewers
Just tried this quickly from office next door.
Connection Info only mentions attempted connection to 62.123.123.123 but not :5506

Re: Different ports for different viewers
Yes it is setup with ports the same as SC.

Re: Different ports for different viewers
Where does 5901 come into all this.
Where and at what stage are internal and external router addresses specified.

Re: Different ports for different viewers
5901 is the default port. This can be changed.

Re: Different ports for different viewers
5901 is used if you are using the repeater
Re: Different ports for different viewers
Thanks for replies so far, but can anyone tell me;-
Where and at what stage are internal and external router addresses specified.
Does the viewer just sit there when waiting (needing you to minimise), unlike having an icon in the bottom right with SC.
Thorough answers would be appreciated.
Thanks again.
Just tried again
Connection info (after inputing password) ONLY states static ip of our router eg 62.123.123.123 but does NOT have the port number required for forwarding to my Pc eg. 62.123.123.123:5506
Unfortunately the Connection info (Rel 1.0.0) screen is to small to tell me more as it seems to continue off to the right.

Re: Different ports for different viewers
Did you try to make a connection via the repeater option..
[topic=9663]"Zero Configuration" PcHelpWare_viewer Setup[/topic]
test this one and see if you can get it to work..

Re: Different ports for different viewers
Hi Bevtech
Don't really want to go along the route of using someone else' repeater as i already have all port-forwarding and firewall rules in place from SC.
I think i might have a go to use the repeater option pointing to our router IP address, id's 1-12, both viewer\server ports listening on 5501 to 5512 dependant on user.
Thanks again.

Re: Different ports for different viewers
it was only for a test not for a solution. That repeater is one of mine..

Re: Different ports for different viewers
Firewall says
Deny TCP 10.0.0.67:2305 162.39.46.171:5901 out
10.0.0.67 being my internal address
Server part worked ok
Deny TCP 10.0.0.67:2305 162.39.46.171:5901 out
10.0.0.67 being my internal address
Server part worked ok

Re: Different ports for different viewers
According to this output, we can know that:zebs wrote:Firewall says

You run a viewer at a PC of IP 10.0.0.67
You make a connection to a repeater, at port 5901
The repeater is at IP 162.39.46.171
But most important, the firewall blocked the connection, so obviously you are unable to establish a success connection.
If you want to set a connection using repeater method, be make sure (assume using default ports):
-Viewer -- port 5901 outbound not blocked
-Server -- port 5500 outbound not blocked
-Repeater -- port 5901 & 5500 inbound not blocked, and better have a fix IP or DynDNS.
Re: Different ports for different viewers
Unfortunatelly, this thread is going off track to my original question.
If the connection box is to be believed, it does not use the port specified by me in the helpdesk.txt file, just the router public IP address. My firewall logs show nothing trying to access on 5506.
Thanks for everyone's help but i shall have to stick with UVNC SC for the time being.

Re: Different ports for different viewers
Hi,
I'm also looking for some instructions just like zebs for how to use the PCH server to connect to a couple of different predefined viewers. I'm also using one public IP with different ports for different viewers.
In SC this wasn't a issue: Just needed a couple of different Host-lines in Helpdesk.txt wich resulted in different connections in the server dialog.
Any ideas for PCH?

Re: Different ports for different viewers
Ok, think I'm answering my own question...
Might be obvious now but I didn't understand that You'll still use the PC_Helpware viewer and setting correct viewer ports.
The thing that confused me was all the options and the talk about repeater.
Guys: Thanks for a fantastic software that really fills a gap out there!
