I'm not new to VNC, and I have googled and can't find a solution.
Using defaults (and custome ports/displays) I can connect to the machine, the screen flickers and goes blank.
BUT...if I remote desktop in and while that's running connect with VNC I get a displey. Somehow they are connected.
Point is if I could remote desktop in for all situations I wouldn't NEED VNC.
I'm running it on my Server 2K3 and it works great. XP SP2 is pro.
Any intelligent help would be welcome.

WinXP Pro SP2 & UltraVNC 1.0.2 - BLANK client screen
Re: WinXP Pro SP2 & UltraVNC 1.0.2 - BLANK client screen
I'm sorry I can't provide help but I wanted to post here to as I'm getting the EXACT same thing.
I get a black (blank) screen until I RDP to the same system.
I hope someone can post an answer or solution to this.

Re: WinXP Pro SP2 & UltraVNC 1.0.2 - BLANK client screen
Has anyone found a solution to this? I am getting the same results.
When I connect via VNC, the screen is blank, until I connect via RDP; then I see everything. I'm guessing there a re some settings I need to mess with?
Also, when I disconnect the RDP session, I lose control with VNC.
If you've found a solution, please post. Thanks.

Ditto for me. Despite the fact that the server has an incoming connections timeout of 10 seconds, when I connect to it, it immediately gives me the password request (as if Accept had been clicked), and when I enter the correct password I get a black screen. Nothing seems to get past this. Annoying.

Did you install UltraVNC using RDP? I recall there being a problem doing it that way. I'll edit this if I can find a link to reference.

Re: WinXP Pro SP2 & UltraVNC 1.0.2 - BLANK client screen
OK, found the answer to my problem. The UltraVNC server had been started on one account, and the user was currently 'switched' into another account. Presumably the first account was on standby, so I just got a blank screen.

That's called Fast User Switching and it currently isn't supported.
Re: WinXP Pro SP2 & UltraVNC 1.0.2 - BLANK client screen
This situation pretty much describes the problem I'm having.
I only use UltraVNC to connect to my home network and my knowledge is very limited. However, I have no problems connecting to other pcs running XP Home, a Mac running OSX and a Linux box running Ubuntu.
I'm only getting the problem connecting to a new pc running XP Pro with 2 user accounts (no passwords). I believe it must be a problem with the user login situation.
When I go to the machine and login and UltraVNC Server is running I can then go and VNC-in no problem. But then if I wait a while until the user is automatically logged out I still get the password prompt from UltraVNC Viewer, but then just get the black screen.
So it would appear to my untrained eye that the login process through Pro also needs to be simulated/kickstarted somehow. Can this be done through UltraVNC Server's settings, or is there something else I need to do?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: WinXP Pro SP2 & UltraVNC 1.0.2 - BLANK client screen
Does the screen saver has a password? FUS and screen saver passwords aren't currently supported.
Re: WinXP Pro SP2 & UltraVNC 1.0.2 - BLANK client screen
No, there's not a screensaver being used. I should have described more clearly. It's at the point where the blue screen comes up and you choose which account you want to log into. Each account doesn't have a password either.
I'm actually looking at Remote Desktop now as we're talking Windows to Windows, so please don't waste any time on this as I may well be able to use that instead to do what I need (I think!).
