Win 2K Viewer crashing with AESV2 plugin

Post by Buck Bokai »

I have the newest copies of the plugins and UltraVNC. When attempting to use a Win 2K machine to control a Win XP machine, the viewer crashes when it connects to the server. Using either of the other 2 plugins does not exhibit this behavior. The viewer dies at the point where the server would prompt to allow access if it is enabled. From what I can tell, the viewer does connect for a second and then dies. Is there an error log some where that I could post here? And should the AESV2 password be restricted to 8 characters? I am currently using a sentence for the password.

All passwords for classical authenication is 8 chars. Not sure what a longer password would do to the encyptions plugins.. Try only an 8 char password.

Also try msrc4.dsm to see what it does..

Restricting the password to 8 characters still causes the viewer to crash. The VNC Viewer Status box comes up and then the error message. It looks like something is happening when the connection handshakes.

I went back to the download page http://msrc4plugin.home.comcast.net/aesv2plugin.html and noticed that it says that you do not need to generate a key file. I renamed the key file on both machines. When the server is configured it now shows that it does not find a key file and says that it is using the password instead. Now the viewer will prompt for the password to the server. After entering the password, the viewer crashes just as before.

As I have indicated in my previous post, the ARC4 and MSRC4 plugins work with no problems, it is only the AESV2 plugin. Is there any way to generate a log file?

Still no reply on this? The AESV2 plugin still crashes under Win 2K, key or no key. I can provide diagnostic information if someone will tell me how.

Have you tried contacting the plugin author? His email address is posted on the MSRC4 DSM Plugin for UltraVNC homepage.

I emailed the author on April 5, 2007 and have received no reply. Their home page says to post here, because they check the boards frequently.

Just another addition on the problem, when being prompted for the connection password, the viewer will crash with either the correct or incorrect password for the server.
