Will PCHELPWARE replace SC?
Will PCHELPWARE replace SC?
I'm wondering about the future of UltraVNC SC. Is it the intention of the developers of these programs that PCHELPWARE will eventually replace SC? If so, how long is the horizon? I have avoided spending any time with PCHELPWARE because SC does exactly what I need in most cases. If SC is actually being replaced I will obviously have to move to PCHW or some other solution.

Re: Will PCHELPWARE replace SC?
PcHelpware will replace SC in a 6-12 months.
UltraVnc SC is to hard to maintain. Let explain.
I have some other (commercial) projects that use remote access, current
i need to make 2 seperate things SC (GPL) and a commerical tree.
Time is limited, so PcHelpware is made with pieces of the commerial apps.
This mean i can now maintain one source tree for both, and don't loose time on implementing things in seperate parts. Solved bugs can also be easy moved between apps..
But it is still to soon, you better wait a few months more...

Re: Will PCHELPWARE replace SC?
Does that mean that there will be no free solution once this change takes place?

Re: Will PCHELPWARE replace SC?
We never gonna sell it, it's free and stay free.
Some parts will also be delivered with source code, like the Gui.
This allow you to customize the layout.
Possible we also split the encryption engine, so people can see how it is done.
See current license

Re: Will PCHELPWARE replace SC?
I do not blame the developers for closing the source off. Everyone wants there on projects and to try to make money without contributing back to the project. If you ask me that is silly and really destroying the purpose for open source group collaberation. Like they said freeware is not the same as open source but it is still free..

Re: Will PCHELPWARE replace SC?
If SCIII is not going to be maintained anymore, can the SC source code be maintained by anyone else ???
I am an open source advocated, and would love to see it maintained (at least bug fixes) ... but, i can also understand what rudi said about maintaining several sources.
I wish that I was a better coder, then i would offer to maintain it myself... but im not, and cant.
Whatever the decision, I want to thank rudi and the rest of the development team for their work, honesty and help. And for creating and maintaining such a great open source product.
thanks

Re: Will PCHELPWARE replace SC?
Are you willing to allow someone to maintain the SC tree and possibly provide the knowledge to get the Vista code to work in the SC tree. I understand you don't want to maintain 2 trees and PCHelpware is a great project but there is places where SC has been a really nice project. Particulary the ablity to create configuration files and use it interchangably with other VNC projects that use the repeater and the basic vncviewer.exe which is distroed through UltraVNC.
Also I like the FileTransfer system in place much more than the ClipBoard Idea as many users are alread framiliar with FTP like interfaces.
thanks.
