PCHelpWare viewer closes after authentication

Post by Shinken »

I had PCHelpWare server and viewer files working fine until my office computer's WinXP Pro crashed & had to be reinstalled. After the WinXP reinstallation, whenever I open the viewer and another computer (outside of my router) tries to logon, I can see the connection occurring but then the Viewer window disappears.

On the PCHelpware server, the following is displayed:
Password Failed
We stopped the connection
The Operation completed successfully
Init network failed

On the viewer Connection window (my computer), the following is displayed:
Start Encryption, waiting server
Encryption setup is complete
An existing connection was forcibly (rest of string is off-screen)

This is the same PcHelpware server and viewer that I have been using for a few months without any connection problems.

I've tried connecting with my internet security all off (ZoneAlarm firewall, Norton AntiVirus, and SpywareDoctor), but still no connection, so I don't think they're interfering. In any case, they didn't interfere before I had to reinstall my OS.

Does anyone know why the viewer and server are no longer connection and/or how to fix it.

Thanks,

Phil

Figured out the problem, but don't know why it happened.

The password was saved in the viewer configuration file, but for some reason the password was lost, so the server was providing a password for a viewer that didn't have a password (field was blank). I re-entered the password into the viewer config, saved the file, and connections are working again.

Does anyone have thoughts about why the config file dropped the password but retained the rest of the config info?

Thanks,

S

I have seen this before when moving the viewer to a new machine. After reentering the password and resaving all was well. Are you saying that you had created the server on this same machine and the password used to be saved, but mysteriously vanished? That would be a new one :o .

Thanks for the reply. Yes.

A key boot file on my WinXP Pro went bonkers and could not be repaired doing a WinXP repair install, so I did a full XP reinstall. I then reinstalled apps (aaarrrgggghhhh!) and restored data from the previous night's backup.

I restored the entire PCHelpware folder and subfoldersand then ran the viewer on this computer, and tested it by running the server file from another computer outside of my LAN. The viewer appeared to come up configured correctly. When the server attempted to connect, I could the see the attempt on the viewer, and a greyed-out viewer window was even displayed briefly, but then disappeared.

It seemed like it might be a password issue, so I tried resetting the password on the viewer configuration, and that was when I noticed that the password field was empty. When I entered the password, the connection was successful. I then saved the configuration and have had no problem since then.
