PcHelpWare and Repeater

Post by screamingswifts »

Hi,

I’m very new to the world of UVNC and PcHelpWare so bare with me please.

What I would like to set up with PcHelpWare is….customer in outside world needs help from one of our techs, and I would like them to be able to choose, support 1, support 2, support 3 etc.

My set up is

Internet > router (not managed by us) > firewall (managed by us) > LAN

The customer sits on the internet side and the techs on our LAN.

So far I have configured PcHelpWare and had success both on our LAN and also testing an external connection by dialup. I set up a repeater and internally on the LAN was able to connect to either support 1 or 2 by choosing id.

I am now struggling to get the repeater to work with external connections.

I have port forwarding on the firewall, 5901 and 5500 going to the ip of the repeater box but am getting confused on how to configure the viewer for this. Direct connections via port forwarding from the internet work fine. Am I best to just open up say 4 ports and have direct connections to each support person, or is there a way to do this with the repeater.

I have looked at various step by step guides, and searched the forum etc but have reached the point of needing the probably obvious pointed out to me.

Thanks in advanced for any help.

I would look into the qui sc section of pchelpware.

That will let you specify serveral techs with one exe.

The only thing is that the pchelpware viewer will only support one connection at a time so another viewer would have to be open if you want to support more then one customer on a pc..:)

Thanks bevtech - that looks like a step in the right direction as I can send just one exe to any cutomer, but this means I will need to open a port for each tech. eg 5500 forwarded to support 1, 5600 forwarded to support 2 etc.

Is there a way to open just one port on our fiewall and have a repeater sort it out internally?

Cheers

yes you can use ID's instead of ports and have the exe connect to the repeater via id's then have the viewer connect via that id..:)

All working great now - just one little niggle remains...I have managed to configure and 'personalize' the gui apart from the black horizontal box below the [HOST] field and above the [TEXTTOP] field. What do I need to edit to change this....can't find it anywhere.......

Also can't get the -direct to work, should it work with PcHelpWare_SC_GUI ?

example of helpdest.txt

[HOST]
Internet support (Direct Connection)
-connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -direct

Many Thanks

Tanya

-direct switch will only work if there is one host listed in the helpdesk.txt. If there is more then one host section it will not work..(

If only have one connection setting, you can use the "Direct" option, but in SC_GUI, its syntax in helpdesk.txt s/b like this:
--------------------------------
[HOST]
Internet support (Direct Connection)
-connect xx.xx.xx.xx:5500

[DIRECT]

----------------------------------

Details of all config. options can be found at:
