Wont connect to static public IP?

Post by raster »

I have tried everything in my power to get this to work.

I am able to connect when I type in my local and static IP: 192.168.1.136, in the helpdesk-file.
But when I type in the public IP nothing happens. Used port 5900 on both.
I have a Zyxel 2602-R Router from my ISP and a D-Link 525UP wireless router. I use the D-link only as access point. Connected the Zyxel router to one of the 4 ports - not the WAN-port. (To avoid double routing)

Port forwarding seems to work on other programs but for some reason not here..

I forward ports from the Zyxel-router like shown in the picture below:

I manage to make it work when i typed my public IP under "Advanced TCP/IP settings"

But it caused an IP-conflict when I restarted the computer, and it should work without that..

What am i missing`?

Thanks - Rasmus

If you are using SC then the default port is 5500.. You might need to open port 5500 to forward to your viewer..:) which looks like you have done there but is your wireless accesspoint blocking it or is it doing any nat translation..??

It could very well be the D-link which causes the problem but I thought that by using it only as an access point would disable its settings. What should I look for in the D-link which could be blocking? NAT translation?

Just went trough the D-link configuration but I am not sure what to look for..?

I have port forwarded in there though it shouldn't make any difference?

What options do you have in the dlink?? if it is doing nat translation you have to port forward it as well to the new ip..

Well I connected my laptop directly to the ISP Zyxel router and it didn't change anything!? Must be Zyxel which is causing the problem. After going trough the configuration in there I am lost. Could my ISP have blocked the port from 5500-5900? Or could it have something to do with my IP phone which is the reason for my static public IP?

I called my ISP and they confirmed that the port forwarding from the Zyxel to my local IP was correct and we did a successful test with windows build in remote desktop. So it must be something in Ultravnc SC that I am missing.
Does it it allow loop back connections from/to the global ip? It works when i connect directly to the local IP..
[HOST]
Internet support
-connect 192.168.1.136:5500 -noregistry
Or have I missed something in the program configuration?

well the ip listed below 192.168.1.136 is a priviate ip.. Are you using the ip from wwww.whatismyip.com. That would be your internet ip and it will not start with 192 or 172 or 10 those are private addresses..:)

I just wanted to to illustrate that it worked when i put my local IP in the helpdesk - loopback. But not when I type the global. 85.80.xxx.xxx. Maybe there was a problem using loopback with the global IP with Ultravnc sc?

Just an idea - i am running out of ideas..

Status:
Everything is up and running. My ISP (router) doesn't allow loopback. So I wasn't able to connect as a client to the global IP under the same router as the server. Not very smart for testing...

Thanks everybody.

oh you trying to your wan ip address from a LAN computer... The routers will not support that because it is the same as the local address the traffic will not route it due to it being the same location..

Glad you got it working...:)

LOL

Yes, i had the same problem when testing ... you need somebody elses internet connection to test ... luckily i have a dialup account to test it from ... that always works (if you have multiple PCs)
