Create viewer and use viewer

Post by jcd »

PcHelpWare presents a serious problem when you want to use the viewer.
Petardo has described a solution to create a viewer (post [topic=8548][/topic]) : It is good thing to send a viewer programmed to work with a server with the same configurations.
But there is a problem already reported by dcstalls : the viewer runs only on the pc it was created. It is the same problem if you copy all pchelpware directory : it is impossible to establish a connexion. During some instants, there is a grey screen which appears on the screen of the viwer PC and vanish very rapidly !

The log shows :
Start
Connecting direct
195.203.44.122
ID 372053
Connect repeater success
Setting up encryption
Waiting for viewer…
Public key received..
Sending contra key…
Encryption initialized..
Server require password
Sending hostname and cpu info
Sending PCH version
Receive password
Password Failed, we stop the connection

Opération réussie
Init Network failed

This log indicates that the password failed or is not recognised and the connexion is stopped : " Init Network Failed "

This problem limits the use of PcHelpWare. Rudi, have you examined this problem and have you a solution to avoid it ?

Many thanks. Regards.

now think about this.. If you are using a direct connection would not that be ip and port be static and need to be changed if you move it to another computer?? You have to port forward 5500 to the local ip so if you change it it would not work..

Does this problem still exists if you use a repeater??

For the test I use a personnal repeater, but it is the same with the uvnc repeater. I do not think that it is a problem of connection: the connection is OK when I use this configuration on the pc where I have build the server or the viewer. Every time I have verified that no precedent pchelpware applictaion was working.

Some explanations :

I configure a connexion on computer A: I develop the server with PcHelpWare and the viewer with Petardo method (post [topic=8548][/topic]). I use a copy of pchelpware_server.exe on a second computer B and I control this last PC with the pchelpware_viewer.exe from the previous computer A: all is OK.

Now I reverse the role: this time, I install the same viewer on the computer B with a copy of pchelpware_viewer.exe and I launch pchelpware_server.exe on the first computer A. When I Launch the viewer on computer B, it is impossible to control the computer A and impossible to display the computer A in the pchelpware window with the viewer which is the same that I used in the previous manipulation.

I notice in the log that the " password fails " !!

Where is the wrong manipulation if it exists ?

Many thanks for your attention.

How do you input the parameters into the viewer? (enter by manual, or load the profile?) Can you run the tests again, and make sure:
1. The viewer setting in both tests are the same.
2. If still encounter failure at the "reverse the role" test, please enter the password by manual to see what is going on.

I examine and test your propositions and I tell you the results.
The solutions for this problem is important : without solution, the use of pchelpware is limited and the viewer is not transferable from one computer to another computer. I am astonished that this problem was not spotted before.
Many thanks for these first suggestions with the hope that are ultimate answers !

would "Sending hostname and cpu info" have any effect? I mean if you create the viewer and server on one machine then you would assume that once you transfer it to another machine the problem might be that the cpu info it is sending is the cpu info from the original machine. Would that be correct? (apart from the port forwarding issue).

What appear to be happening when transferring the entire PcHelpWare directory is that the passwords are not transferred (although there is a hash in the PHW-file).

Once I reentered the password and resaved on the new machine, everything worked fine.

I answer to different persons which help me. You are very pleasant.

1) After new manipulations, I have verified that it is the same problem if I copy all pchelpware directory.
2) I observe that when I copy on another computer pchelpware_viewer.exe, launch it and select a profile, all features relative to this profile are présent, but the passwoed is not copied and a blank appears in the colum PassWord. If I enter this password, the viewer works normally and the connexion is established.

CONCLUSION : always enter the password when you use a pchelpware_viewer copy, even this pasword is not asked for the server !
