Re: PcHelpWare with Dyndns
I think you're referring to the problems with the DynAlias option which is not the same as DynDNS.org. I use PcHelpWare with my dynamic host name (assigned at DynDNS.org) and it works fine.
You can try [topic=9663]"Zero Configuration" PcHelpWare_viewer Setup[/topic] which requires no firewall configuration on either end.

Re: PcHelpWare with Dyndns
Glad it worked.
To use a direct connection you'll need to configure the PcHelpWare_viewer as follows:
Since this is a direct connection, I've set the alias to the particular machine that the traffic will be sent to.
You'll need to set up port forwarding on your router for TCP traffic on port 5500 to the private IP address of the machine that will be running the viewer, in my case the machine named DadsLaptop. PortForward is an excellent resource on how to set up port forwarding on many different routers.
You'll then need to allow the inbound traffic on TCP port 5500 on the machine running the viewer. This seems to be the part that is the biggest roadblock. I'll use the Windows Firewall as an example, but you'll need to do something similar in whatever security software you're using. In the Windows firewall, you need to create an Exception for the TCP traffic on port 5500. You do this in the Exceptions tab of the Windows Firewall (firewall.cpl) by using the Add Port feature.
Now when you click Create Server you will be prompted for the server IP address. This is where you should enter your DynDNS hostname.
Hope that helps.

Re: PcHelpWare with Dyndns
i did try the options and it is not working. I have already registered on dyndns and i have a dyndns alias Eg:- (test1.getmyip.com).. Now i entere this name in the option where it asks me for the external IP address and then create the server. port forward is done for the linksys wrt54g router for port 5500 and to my local lan ip 192.168.xxx.xxx. after doing this and sending the file to my desktop for testing it still does not work.
on the debug window on the server i get the following error mess... ( can read it partially though)..
"A connection attempt failed becasue the connected party did..."
Thnks..[/img]

Re: PcHelpWare with Dyndns
Are you running both the viewer and repeater on the same machine? Do you have another machine on your LAN that you can try? I'll try running both apps on the same PC when I get home and post my results.
When you run your test, you'll need to load the PHW-file you saved for the direct connection and start the viewer before starting the server.
Are you running any security software such as the windows firewall that is on by default in SP2? If so, you will need to create an exception for TCP traffic on port 5500.

Re: PcHelpWare with Dyndns
since i want to use dyndns i am using the option in viewer called direct connection. then fill in the name and password. put the port as 5500 as it is enabled on my router and then click save.. then click on create server.. it asks for my ecternal ip addres and i enter my dyndns name.then server is built and i copy the same to another desktop on my lan(both connected to the internet using router) and then start viewer with the settings loaded and then click connect on the desktop and then i get this error. i am using windows vista as the OS and have allowed firewall access.. hope this info helps

Re: PcHelpWare with Dyndns
Something is not as it appears. I wrote a debug procedure using Microsoft's PortQry utility for finding where your connection is broken for UltraVNC which uses port 5900. Follow the procedure and substitute port 5500 for port 5900 and follow the procedure with the viewer started with the direct connection PHW-file. [topic=5890]How to Debug "Failed to Connect to Server"[/topic]
I suspect that you will see that port 5500 is FILTERED on your viewer PC when you PortQry from another machine inside your LAN. You'll need to find out what security software is doing the filtering and tweak it until the port is LISTENING.
