problem with repeater over hamachi
problem with repeater over hamachi
i must say i really like ultravnc and i can say i tried lots of remote control tools.
i want to connect from a routable ip to a pc behind a lan wich has no ports forwarded and no chance of getting them. i found a way to connect to it over hamachi (another wonderful tool). now to get things even further. i tried to connect to a pc in same lan wich has vnc installed. so i installed the repeater on first server to wich i have hamachi access and tried to connect to to the second vnc server using the repeater. made several attempts and i get the following error on my client:
Connection failed - Error reading Protocol Version Possible causes:
- You've forgotten to select a DSMPIugin and the Server uses a DSMPlugin
- Viewer and Server are not compatible (they use different RFB protocoles)
- Bad connection
i don't use any dsm plugins on the client or server. the viewer and server are on all computers ultravnc 1.0.2.
please help!
later edit: i must add that i use win xp pro and ultravnc 1.0.2 on all pcs and that windows firewall is configured to let vnc pass through.

If that is giving you grief you can try this

Re: problem with repeater over hamachi
I needed to port forward the secure shell port (22) in the reference Bevtech gave so I don't think that will work for you.
I'm not a Hamachi expert, but I believe the trouble is that you have three LANs. One is your private LAN, the second is the remote PC's private LAN and the third is the 5.* Hamachi network. It's my understanding that the three are independent and you won't be able to access one from another which is what you're trying to do using the repeater in Mode I.
The only way that I think this will work is if you added the other PC to your Hamachi network or if you try using the repeater in Mode II, but this will require a connection to be made from the UltraVNC viewer and server. As another option, there is a NAT2NAT UltraVNC add-on that I've never used which may work for you.

Re: problem with repeater over hamachi
k excuse me for not clearing it up. the client is on the internet. the computer with the repeater is in a lan along with the 3rd pc i'm trying to connect to. only the client and the repeater are on same hamachi lan. the 3rd one is not. tried to connect through the repeater (using method 1 wich seems to be my situation) to the 3rd pc. i don't want to use method 2 because that means that the other pcs have people on them and that is not the case (tried to use that way but it failed even with a human on the other side) and i don't want to use nat2nat because it is too complicated to use and it also requires user interaction (and wich i also tried and failed and i don't understand where i could get a nat helper).mattice06082 wrote:I needed to port forward the secure shell port (22) in the reference Bevtech gave so I don't think that will work for you.

i also must mention thta i can access the repeater using the normal way through hamachi and it works well. i can also access the 3rd pc from the repeater through regular way. i cannot access the 3rd pc fron the outside pc and the lient gives me the erro i posted. the repeater also gives an error wich i did not posted. here it is:
Version 107
socket() initialized
bind() succeded to port 5901
listen() succeded
accept() connection
Unable to connect to destination host, errno=0
from what i see the repeater accepts the connection but it cannot connect to the 3rd pc even if i can connect from the repeater to the 3d pc using regular vnc way.
to make it more clear:
1st pc, repeater, 3rd pc
1st pc internet
repeater and 3rd pc same regular lan
1st pc and repeater same hamachi lan
3rd pc not in hamachi lan
1st pc can access repeater through hamachi
repeater and 3rd pc can acess 1st pc using the regular way
could it be that 1st pc is connecting to repeater through hamachi and the repeater(used like a repeater) is trying to connect to the 3rd pc using a regular lan and not a logical one like hamachi.
yelp!

Re: problem with repeater over hamachi
Sorry if I'm not understanding, but why do you need a repeater? Why not add the third PC to the Hamachi network and connect to it directly?
Re: problem with repeater over hamachi
because even if i will do that then i can't do that to other computer in the lan (not hamachi) who have vnc on them. let's just say that adding that pc to hamachi lan is not doable.Guspaz wrote:Sorry if I'm not understanding, but why do you need a repeater? Re: problem with repeater over hamachi
I don't think that this is your situation. The repeater needs to be on the same private network as PC 3 for Mode I, but when you connect using Hamachi you're not.tried to connect through the repeater (using method 1 wich seems to be my situation)
I believe that 1st pc is connecting to repeater on 2nd pc through Hamachi so it's on the Hamachi LAN, but since 3rd pc isn't on this network (which is required in Mode I) it doesn't work.could it be that 1st pc is connecting to repeater through hamachi and the repeater(used like a repeater) is trying to connect to the 3rd pc using a regular lan and not a logical one like hamachi.
Like I said, I'm not a Hamachi expert so I could be way off here, but that's my 2 cents.
By the way can 2nd PC (one with repeater) connect to 3rd PC using private LAN? You probably already answered this, but I had a little bit of a hard time following the dialog.

i already said that repeater and 3rd pc are in the same regular lan
1st pc and repeater are on a hamachi lan
1st pc tries to connect to 3rd pc through the repeater.
the repeater belongs both to one regular lan and to a hamachi lan. the condition that requires that both repater and server to be in same lan is respected.

Re: problem with repeater over hamachi
Here's a link to a Hamachi forum HowTo for bridging the two networks together, Using Routed Tunneling to Bridge Networks Together. The objective of the HowTo is to
Before going through all this, verify that the PC running the repeater can actually connect to the 3rd PC on same LAN without using the repeater.show you how to bridge two networks of Windows computers together using a single Windows (2000, XP, or 2003) machine on each network running Hamachi.

Re: problem with repeater over hamachi
HalfHuman:
My setup is exactly like yours. Until tonight when everything proceeded to fail, it has been working fine for several weeks.
I have UltraVNC Viewer at home. I also have Hamachi installed with my machine and the client machine on the same Hamachi 5.0.0.0 network.
On the client machine I have installed UltraVNC 1.0.2 with the Repeater. On 21 other client machines I have installed UltraVNC servers.
I have port 5901 forwarding from a Netgear router to the client machine which hosts the Hamachi client and UltraVNC Repeater.
I am using the NoReg encryption plugin because I would like the connections between the repeater and the other UltraVNC servers on the LAN to be encrypted. It works over the Hamachi link as well although Hamachi has its own encryption.
I specify in the UltraVNC Viewer to access the client repeater by specifying the 5.0.0.0 IP address of the client repeater machine with :5901 as the port added to the IP address. For the target machine I specify the host name of the machine I want to connect to. In this case, the client machine host names are simply letters, with the client repeater machine being machine "A1". I simpy specify the host name of the client machine to connect to through the repeater, such as "A" or "L" or whatever. So the repeater is address as: 5.128.32.129:5901 or whatever, and the target machine is specified as "A" or "L" or whatever (the port defaults to 5900 which I left as the default on each of the other client machines.), And it all works fine.
Until tonight anyway. I installed Comodo firewall the other day, and now the Viewer freezes and dies after fifteen minutes, with the Hamachi connection also knocked down. I can re-establish the Hamachi connection by "powering off", then "powering on" the Hamachi client, but UltraVNC refuses to reconnect at that point.
If I rebooted, everything would work again for fifteen minutes until the viewer would freeze and crash again. The problem seemed to be roughly time dependent, which is really odd.
So I uninstalled the Comodo firewall and reinstalled my old firewall.
And now UltraVNC refuses to connect at all even after a reboot.
But it was working the way I had it very nicely, which is pretty much the way you had it. Just make sure you use the Hamachi IP address to make the connection, not the regular IP address assigned to the repeater machine. You might have to do the port forwarding of port 5901 as well. But otherwise you should be able to connect from the internet PC through the repeater to the 3rd PC. I was doing it fine.
