Run server on a remote pc WITHOUT having to push connect?

Is it possible? Would make my life as admin quite a bit easier at times.

Where I stand:
I configured "PcHelpWare_server.exe" so it's "helpdesk.txt" only contains:
-connect (IP address):5500 -passwd (passwd)

Only thing keeping it from connecting is the remote users step requiring the "connect" button to be depressed.. Is there some way to bypass that step or perhaps some command line switch that can do this?

Add [DIRECT] to the end of your helpdesk.txt file.

Ok I've changed:
-connect (IP address):5500 -passwd (passwd)

to:
-connect (IP address):5500 -passwd (passwd) [DIRECT]

Then rebuilt the server and in testing it still required the user to hit the connect button.

I then tried:
-connect (IP address):5500 -passwd (passwd)
[DIRECT]

And rebuilt the server and this also in testing it still required the user to hit the connect button.
What am I doing wrong?

So I have the "[DIRECT]" format correct then?

As for the password, I'm using "123" to test at the moment, so yes a password is being used.

Note: 123 is the password I'm testing/trying to get this to work with. It isn't whats listed in the "helpdesk.txt" (which contains the encrypted password which unencrypted =123)

This is a manual edit or scgui their is not an option for it with the new gui creator. I accomplished this by manually editing the helpdesk.txt under the create_server/custom folder then by running the create server bat.

The server will be in myservers directory (not in the Alias name) with the modified helpdesk.txt


I can see this being very useful for alot of users that have one host in their helpdesk.txt.

The above applies to the SC_Gui Server only.

For the new PHW server (the one bundled with PcHelpWare 1.0 download), you need to add "-direct" at the end of Helpdesk.txt.
"[Direct]" will not work at all. (ryeookin had tried)

Because the "Create Server" button in viewer WILL NOT generate the "-direct" option into the Helpdesk.txt, we need to add it manually and run the "Create" batch file to get a server with this feature.

To have the server automatically connect to a listening viewer you need to manually edit the helpdesk.txt file that's stored in the PcHelpWare\create_server\custom directory and add ' -direct' to the end of the line.

Then manually run the Create.bat file in the in PcHelpWare\create_server directory. It'll create a new PcHelpWare_server.exe file in the PcHelpWare\myservers directory (not in the alias directory).

Yes that does work. However not much is gained since the viewer has to be started before the server, hence, the server operator still has to manually start up the server. The only step not needed is to click on the "Connect" button.

What would really be nice is if the server could run all the time in the remote computer system tray (starts up with windows) and then the viewer could start up and shut down from his computer remotely. Is this possible. Please excuse my ignorance.

PHW is not designed to work as your said situation, if you want to access a remote computer (and that computer is standby for connection, i.e Listening), you better use the UVNC, or windows' RDP.

But if, for some reason, you really want to have PHW worked as you mentioned, it can be done at this specific condition:
1. The remote computer (running server) can auto-logon to a user's desktop directly.
2. A link of the PHW-server is inside folder Startup, so that PHW-server can run automatically.
3. The server's Helpdesk.txt should include "-direct" & "-autoreconnect" option, so the server will try to make a connection. Even if the viewer is not yet reached, the server will keep on re-try.
