Trying out rel 1.0 and having issues

Post by bradtwurst »

Hello all,

I am trying out the rel1.0 of pchelpware and I am encountering a few issues.

1) when I try to execute the server on windows 2003 server, the system starts to expand the sfx and then the window disappears and nothing else happens.

If I manually extract the files from the sfx and then try to run the server there, nothing happens (no errors, no logs, nothing).

This doesn't happen on XP

2) I am having trouble with the repeater mode.

If I try to use the one at uvnc.com (no proxies), I get the messages in the server log screen:

Code: Select all

Start
using repeater
uvnc.com
ID: 8866
Connect repeater success
setting up encryption
Encryption failed, if using proxy, new repeater listening to 443 and ...
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
Init Network failed.
I started a repeater on a machine on my local network (192.168.0.x) and forward the required ports. Using the same settings as before (only difference is the repeater connection address), I could connect to this repeater from the pchelpware_server from 192.168.0.x1. So, the repeater seems to be working correctly.

However, I then tried to connect to the repeater from a computer on a totally different network, and it failed with the same messages as above.

To make sure I wasn't having an issue with ports being blocked, I tried a direct connect from the machine on the totally different network to an viewer on my local network (port forwarded thru the router) and that work.

I am not sure what else to try.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
James

Did read through the step by step and the online documentation??

I never tried to run pchelpware on a windows 2003 server but I will right now

then I will post my results

Correct I have the same behavior with Windows 2003 SBS Prem. Edition R2

So phelpware has an issue with 2003 servers..

The repeater should work on it though..;)

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I did read both the online docs and the step by step.

I tried it again this morning - attempting to connect to uvnc.com

Here are some screen shots

Image

this is the set up - same as in the step by step - notice that the test comes back ok

I then created the server using the 'create server' button - answered no to both questions about needing to enter id and password

Image

I've started up the viewer (and it appears to be running)

Image

this is the connection screen - I press connect and ...

Image

is the response screen.

BTW, is there anyway to expand this log screen so that I can see more of the messages?

The entire information in the logging box is
Start
Using Repeater
uvnc.com
ID:101030
Connect repeater success
Encryption failed, if using proxy, new repeater listening to 443 and (can't see rest of message)
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
Init Network failed
Now, I'm trying to figure out if this is something on my end, or if there is a problem with the program.

I've tried this with various ID's and passwords and I've tried this with uvnc's repeater and one running on my own server.

I am running the rel1.0.0 version of the software (dl'd it this morning again so that I had a clean version before starting the step-by-step). I have not applied the newer dll's listed on the download page.

I'm fairly technical (15+ years of programming and hardware/network support) and I would gladly help out with trying to debug these problems. Is there a version of the software available that can provide more logging?

Thanks.

Did you ever get this issue resolved because I've got this message for the last couple months I have tried it.. I had this running once in my life about 3 months ago and played with it so much I don't remember what the solution was or if it was just a problem with the repeater at uvnc.com :)

Would love to find out the solution because this program has so much potential :)

As a guess I would say the repeater at uvnc is having problems..
Try a direct connection and if that works.. The repeater seems to be having issues at uvnc.com by the looks of it you are doing nothing wrong
