running setups inside viewer slows/freezes progress bars?

I frequently use VNC to process setups (installsheilds, msi's) for other applications on remote PCs. Frequently, the progress bars displayed by these setups seem to stall, freeze or run very slowly, and the behavior appears to be affected by certain interactions from the VNC viewer. For example, if I alt-tab or otherwise switch focus away from the VNC viewer, the setup might stall until I return to the viewer. Sometimes even when the viewer has focus, the setup will stall until something changes, like toggling focus between two windows inside the viewer, or moving the mouse in and out of the viewer window.

Anybody have any ideas as to what's going on here, and how I can fix it?

Once you get it to refresh does the status bar jump to a new spot? Do you feel that the screen is not refreshing or the progress has actually stopped?

It actually stops (verified by looking at the actual screen on the server). I was trying to figure out at one point if it had something to do with ALT key up/down events, because for example if I alt-tab away from the viewer, the alt-down event may get sent to the server, but by the time alt is released the focus is no longer on the viewer, so the server thinks alt is still down?

I have noticed this same behavior too. I usually let the UVNC window maintain focus until the setup program is finished.

Indeed! I've almost developed a superstition about some of the click/key sequences that seem to "unstuck" it. It's especially frustrating when I have several viewer windows open at once, all trying to install the same update on multiple remote computers. Constantly switching between viewer windows, trying to keep each installer running.

I'd love to know if anyone has further insight on this, and any thoughts on how it could be corrected.
