First of all let me say thank you to all developers of PcHelpWare.
I appreciate very much having such a tool like PcHelpWare.
However using PcHelpWare is (by far) not my core job. I want to use it
with a minimum of learning and investigation effort.
Moreover I can only recommend this tools to others if it is
easily to handle.
When I look now onto the existing documentation this is very, very
difficult to accomplish.
Just a few ideas which makes it hard to get easily in touch with PcHelpWare:
1.) If I look into
http://www.bevingtontechnologies.com/ww ... bystep.pdf
a couple of misleading labels are used e.g.
PcHelpWare_viewer.exe: an integrated all-in-one "server-creator" and "remote viewer"
Hmm, is this *.exe now a client or a server? The terms "client" and "server" are known to everyone. If PcHelpWare would use these terms then 50% of the structure would be clear just with these expressions.
As far as I understand it a name like
PcHelpWare_viewer_and_server_creator.exe for PcHelpWare_viewer.exe would be more suitable.
Why not just naming it PcHelpWare.exe
2.) If I go now to web page:
http://www.uvnc.com/pchelpware/download/index.html
there is v1.0 to download and above it (=newer?)
"1SCVDLL.dll and 1SCDLL.dll update"
Hmm, if these DLL replace earlier versions why not putting them in a newer, complete release v1.01?
3.) On the same page
http://www.uvnc.com/pchelpware/download/index.html
under "PCHelpware Rel 1.0 binary's (GUI PHW)"
it is written that a "Server" is included.
Hmmm, at other places it is said that a server is not included but the server has to be created for every individual case. So it must be only a server_creator.
4.) Similarly on page
http://www.uvnc.com/pchelpware/download/index.html
exist two downloads with a "Server ...GUI" inside.
What's the difference ? I cannot find it out without digging
deep into all files inside. This should be easier identifiable from
download titles itself.
5.) I could mention a lot of other misleading and fuzzy
documentation fragments but the 4 above should be enough for the moment.
Yes, I know some guys are currently working on a new guide.
I am optimistic that this manual will be better than the existing.
It should be not difficult to get rid of the current title "World's most confusing software documentation".

List of open questions, misleading names and missing explana
Re: List of open questions,
I think viewer actually says it better. If it where called client, you'd get the impression that it connects to the server, but in this case the server connects to the viewer, so the viewer is not your typical client.thoste wrote:a couple of misleading labels are used e.g.

I actually thought the DLLs where patches for those who had an older version of PCHW, so I didn't realize that getting the latest version was a two step process until I read your post. That's confusing, especially the DLLs go into different paths and there's no path in the zip file. One of them goes into two places btw, so be sure to search for the old DLLs through all subdirectories before you update.thoste wrote:2.) If I go now to web page:

Actually this thread should be in the documentation disscussion topic.
Very Good thoughts.. The Step by Step needs an update I am waiting for a rewrite from another user then I can reread and see what more needs to be changed..
