Should I hold Off on PcHelpWare Rel 1.0?

Post by tonyp001 »

My company is looking to start a client initiated Internet support system, but I wasn't sure if I should use PcHelpWare or Uvnc SC?
Whats your vote?
Is PCHW rel 1.0 stable enough to use for critical support or should I wait for a while and use SC for now?

Let me know your thoughts.
Thx

After remote controlling several PCs I can say that at this time UltraVNC SC is still more reliable than PCHelpWare. To give you numbers, UVNC SC perfectly runs on 9 out of 10 PCs and PCHelpWare perfectly runs on 7 out of 10 PCs. That's my experience. Maybe others have other thoughts.

I have had more sucess with pchelpware then SC. I am about a 95% success rate compared to about 60% with SC.

I have my own repeater that is on a static ip. Seems to work great for me.

My experience are the similar to OfficialGuest.
There are Maxdata pc the new phw doesn't even start. However, UVNC does!
And in addition, there are some crashes of the viewer now and then...
So, if you don't need any new features of phw (proxy connection) and you are satisfied with uvnc SC so far, I would just wait a little bit...

I have had very good experience with SC. PCHelpware has advantages also. At this time I would say SC has a very good history but PCH has more potential especilly with Vista out. SC seems to hang in vista and PCH has been working better in Vista. What are your experiences with Vista so far if any.

So far I have no experience w/Vista, but our company is looking to upgrade fairly soon.
Is SC designed to run in Vista?

all connection made on same LAN or over WAN ?
if WAN, some are firewalled or proxy office ? (Require -proxy)
if WAN, some computer use different antivirus and block pchelpware considered different than SC even their both use same port ?

all connection are made XP to XP only ?
remember some requirement for viewer and server and workaround for bypass some issue
http://www.uvnc.com/pchelpware/index.html

Disable DirectX (optional) to pchelpware_viewer
Disable DirectX = GDI mode
required for some situation of blank or black screen
software/hardware unable to allow Direct3D like:
Parallel, VMware for linux, Remote Desktop, Terminal Server/Client (mstsc), or other OS or older windows
UltraVNC 1.0.9.6.1 (built 20110518)
OS Win: xp home + vista business + 7 home

I've been using pchelpware now for about a month to support various customers from corporate to home users and have found it to work flawlessly so far.Im using a repeater on our server at work with all the relevant ports forwarded which allows me to support users even when I'm out at another site just by carrying the viewer and it's settings around with me. The only niggle I have so far is that it would be usefull if the viewer could create a viewer package aswell with all the setting's preset except for the ID which could either be set or randomly generated and given to the client when making the connection. from my point of view this would make it far easier to distribute to collegues for them to use as another support tool.
