SC stopped working!

Post by Marc_J »

I used to connect with a custom made SC no problem, server PC (mine) running "C:\Program Files\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe" -listen 5500 with port forwarding through my router.

My friend would run SC on his PC and would connect without any problems, for months and months....

Now it fails around 90% of the time....he says everything looks fine at his end except his desktop doesn't turn blue. At my end, I get the dialogue box to accept his request, then when I say yes vncviewer.exe hangs, any attempt to right click the icon in the status bar doesn't work (but sometimes the right click menu appears minutes later!).

For no apparent reason this works sometimes but mostly not. I have formatted recently but put the same OS (Win XP Pro) on.

Also, what is PCHelpware, is it an updated version of UVNC and if so will it's viewer work with the custom SC server built with UltraVNC?

I have had the same problem that you had. I never did find a solution to it I have had much better success with pchelpware

Also, what is PCHelpware, is it an updated version of UVNC and if so will it's viewer work with the custom SC server built with UltraVNC?

Pchelpware is a complete package its viewer and server on contained in the same download. It is the replacement for single click

www.pchelpware.com has an online doc. There is also a step by step listed in the pchelpware subforum. When you get some time check it and and see if it will work for your needs..;)

Thanks, I decided to "grab the bull by the horns" and give PcHelpWare a try. It wasn't as difficult as it first looked, and I had it working within 15 minutes :)

Just a little feedback about it: -

1. The file transfer system - I personally preferred the "old" UVNC method, rather than the clipboard sync'ing.

2. On the server (SC GUI) side, the SC GUI reappears after quitting the app via the status bar icon (right-click - close), i.e. suggests the support session isn't finished. The user must click the close button on the application window to close again.

3. There doesn't appear to be a quick "one click" method for the viewer to start in listen mode (as was done previously with -listen in the shortcut). The closest I got was to save a connection (set as listen with port 5500 etc) and then associate the .phw file with pcHelpWare, and start it through the connection shortcut, but while this pre-populates the settings there's still a few clicks needed to actually start "listening".
