some issue uvnc.com dynalias ?

Post by NelsonB »

I almost giving up with this...

I WAS using ultravnc, it was working just fine inside my home network (as I stated before) but still couldn't get connected from outside.
I have my dyndns now, I tried from office, getting same error "failed to connect..."

I decided to try PCHelpware (uninstalled ultravnc).... after hours of reading and re-reading pchelpware "instructions" I was getting more and more confused... for real, they are not clear at all.. sorry.... well finally it maps ok, it was showing (unable to map or something like that... this is fixed already).

When I run a test, it shows:
Repeater Test
External IP: "empty" --> nothing here
Internal IP: 192.168.x.z

If I check "Debug" then click on Test again it shows:
Repeater Test
External IP: $@%^ --> weird symbols here
Internal IP: 192.168.x.z

If I run it again it shows both external and internal IPs are THE SAME!!!

After I click Start it shows:
Test: Upnp
Internet Access Server: myrouter
Mapping done

If I open PcHelpWare_server.exe (no username and/or password needed) then I click Connect, it shows the little window saying:
Start
Connecting direct
dyn
Failed to connect
No such host is known
Init Network failed

So far I have the following:
Direct Connection:
Alias: myname
Password: |||||
Listen Port: 5500
Use dynalias: myname
Host Repeater: uvnc.com
Listen Port Dynalias: 5912
Quality: High (checked)
UPnP: Auto map (checked)

Have port 5500 forwarded on router, and firewall turned off.

Any ideas before I commit suicide?? lol

Hi! NelsonB,

Since you failed to make connection from outside with UVNC too, you may have one or more issues in the Firewall/Port Forwarding/etc.

I will suggest you to make a PcHelpWare connection that will touch these things as less as possible, what I means is to test with Repeater Connection (via uvnc.com) first to see the result.

In Repeater mode, both the server and viewer can behind the router, and no need to set any port forwarding, and you can also diable the uPNP mapping too. You only need to make sure port 5500 & 5901 are not blocked ( as PcHelpWare uses these 2 ports to communicate)

Once you have a workable PcHelpWare connection, you can even make use of PcHelpWare ( via repeater) to ask your friends that familiar with Firewall/Router to further check your setting and network environment

I was successfully using release 1.0 with DynALias
Over night my family could no longer connect.
Upon checking, my external IP address is no longer being detected correctly.
(I get random characters)

I know it has been said before "I didn't do anything" :-) but I can't recall changing anything.

I will investigate further.

I did try turning off the firewall with the same result.

I also verified that my router was setup with the correct ports mapping
correctly to my internal IP address.
