PC HelpWare REL 1.0 Questions

Post by Wytech_Wayne »

First of all i'd like to thank the guys at ultravnc for releasing some great products over the years. I have been using ULTRAvnc and ULTRAvncSC both on a commercial and private basis for about 3 years now, by far it is the best version of the open source software.

After visiting the ULTRAvnc website early January, I was made aware of the new PCHelpWare version which also has SC incorporated into it. My concerns/questions at the minute are as follows:

1. DSM plugin feature is no longer available as it does not use the ULTRAvnc viewer.

2. There is no option to accept or deny the connection like there was when using ULTRAvnc viewer and ULTRAvncSC.

3. File transfer is no longer available (i understand you can do a copy and paste), I found it useful to compare directory structures at client and host side. Can you tell me if this feature is going to be incorporated?

4. The link for the on-line SC creator for ULTRAvnc has been replaced. Is there any chance that the link can be activated again to allow 1/2 months of a smoother transition between UltraVNC and PcHelpWare.

5. When using the PcHelpWare SC is there any way to incorporate the password feature or any other kind of security? (i understand this feature may allready be available, but I have only skimmed over the documentation).

Thanks Guys

1. PcHelpware has embedded encryption
DH 512 prime exchange + TWF 256 bit

2. PcHelpware does not allow multiple connections, no option to
deny allow connections.

3. No, you can open 2 explorers (local and remote).
The copy paste allow to copy files/dirctory from one explorere to the other.

4. The link still exist.

5. PcHelpware allow to add a password.
The password is exchanged after the encryption is up and runnning.
*You can embed the password in the server config file as md5 hash.
After encryption is up, viewer password is send plain (in encryption stream), server calculate md5 hash and compare it with the embedded hash.
*Server user need to enter the password. Both viewer and server password need to match.

Well, better mention that on top at the front of the website!

The FTP interface was exactly what it should be, the way it was for SC uvnc.

SC and pchelpware needs a wikiboard.
