For the life of me I can't figure out what is wrong with my installation of the UVNC server on the one XP Home machine on my network.
When I get connected correctly (which is not consistent, many times it rejects my connection, or the server is not found) and am shown the MS Logon II authentication box, the server will consistently fail my authentication even with the correctly entered username and password. And yes the user object is allowed full access in the MS Logon II user list.
Are there any known issues with XP Home and the UVNC MS Logon schemes? I've tried using MS Logon I as well, since XP Home doesn't actually support domains. The only thing I haven't tried is using a share-level password (no MS Logon authentication). But there's no way I'd want to use a share-level password anyway.
When I look at the mslogon.log it shows either:
Invalid attempt (not authorized) from client
or
Invalid attempt from client

UVNC not authenticating correctly in XP Home
Re: UVNC not authenticating correctly in XP Home
Mslogon I seems to be having issues with xp home. I would stick with classical and use one of the dsm plugins that are optional for security. I have heard of other users having the exact same problem you are having..

Re: UVNC not authenticating correctly in XP Home
Yeah I forgot to mention I am using AESV2 DSM Plugins.
So what you're saying is that MS Logon I has problems with XP Home and I should use it without MS Logon at all, with just a single password?
I don't really want to do that, but I guess if I must...
The thing I really hate about non-MS Logon authentication is that if your password is MyDoggy1, you can get in by entering MyDoggy1owienfouiwnec. Or anything where the first 8 characters match.
I'd really like to find a way to use user-level authentication with XP Home.

Re: UVNC not authenticating correctly in XP Home
I had the same fear. I set my mind at ease by tunneling the VNC session through OpenSSH. That way you don't need to port forward the VNC port. I found great setup instructions at http://pigtail.net/LRP/vnc/. They talk about using TightVNC, but the same worked for UltraVNC even with file transfer.
Re: UVNC not authenticating correctly in XP Home
Well I'm already using the AES2 DSM plugin for my UVNC servers and viewers with a 128 bit (if I remember right) key.
How is using OpenSSH over the top of it different?

Well, anyway I booted that copy of XP Home to curb, where it belongs. Got the real mccoy, XP Pro.
So now I'm Homeless, lmao. And in this case, that's a good thing. I've had nothing but disappointments and incapabilities using XP Home.
Sheesh Microsoft, way to screw over a whole lot of people with that one.
...I'm not bitter...
