Block the user from closing VNC Server and windows start up

Post by doraimom »

Hi.
My first question is:

1) How can I block the user from Closing UltraVNC Server with a password for exemple? I'd like to make the same restrictions to the user accessing the Admin Properties. Just people that have the password can access the server... It's a really important option that I couldn't find so far in UltraVNC. I searched in the FAQ and here in the Forum.

2) I created a Windows Registry Entry to make UltraVNC Server starts with windows, so everytime the computer is turned on I can access it using the domain or the current IP address. But, I made that MYSELF. UltraVNC Server doesn't have a single option to do that. Is it really true? I searched for such an option in the User Properties and in the Admin Properties. I found nothing.

These two doubts that I'd like to solve here.
Thanks.

In addition to what bevtech wrote, You will also need to check the following checkboxes in the server properties:

"Disable Tray icon", "Disable Clients options in tray menu", and "Forbid user to close down VNC".

They are all in the main server configuration properties window.

Hi. thank you two for your replies...

I kind of noticed those options "Disable Tray icon", "Disable Clients options in tray menu", and "Forbid user to close down VNC" that sbostedor mentioned, but when I marked DISABLE TRAY ICON, and clicked apply, nothing happened. This option just works when you restart the server. I just got that know.
Anyway, everyone can access the admin properties and overwrite everything just by the start button -> all programs -> UltraVNC.
So, these options aren't really usefull. A admin properties protected by password would be much better. Anyway thanks sbostedor.

About the service stuff that bevtech mentioned, I did see it during the installations process, but when I made my question I was thinking about a start up with windows as a program and not as a service. I king of dislike use it as a service. But, again, It seems that the only way to do that is like I did, manually, because there isn't such an option in the properties' window. Anyway, Thank you bevtech for your reply too.

I do know that if you deploy UltraVNC with VNCScan and the profile has the check boxes to hide the tray icon and not to allow the user to set admin properties, it works as expected.

I"m not sure why the setting is not working for you when set manually.
