When trying to connect between my desktop and laptop I get the error message "The plugin was unable to locate the key fle/ Please ensure that the registry entry is properly set and that the key file exists.
I click OK and it connects.
However, when I try this with a friend, we cannot connect.
How do I "ensure that the registry entry is properly set and that the key file exists?

Can't connect, The plugin was unable to locate the key file
Re: Can't connect, The plugin was unable to locate the key f
You have to include the *.key file in the SC zip along with the plugin msrc4 plugin. Renamed from msrc4noreg to msrc4.dsm
Use the same version of the plugin and the key file in both sides of the connection
Good FAQ can be found below

Re: Can't connect, The plugin was unable to locate the key f
I had the plugin and key in both places.
I redid the plugin, did everything again and this time I got an error on the viewer (support) side:
Connection failed - invalid protocal.
You've forgotten to select a DSMPlugin...
Viewer and Server are not compatible...
Which version should I have donwloaded from the homepage http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/index.html? I did UltraVNC-102-Setup.exe. I see something called "Ultr@VNC 1.0.2 Standalone Viewer" should I have gotten that too?

The full version is fine.
Do you have the msrc4 plugin checked on the viewer that you are using to connect to single click??

Re: Can't connect, The plugin was unable to locate the key f
I check it, close the viewer to the sys tray. I open it again and it is unchecked.
How do I make it stay checked?

Re: Can't connect, The plugin was unable to locate the key f
When I open the viewer in listen mode I can't check the dsm plugin
When I open the viewer I can. It was checked. So I unchecked it and closed it and opened the viewer in listen mode. Still get Invalid Protocol.

Re: Can't connect, The plugin was unable to locate the key f
ok you might need to make a command line change to your listeing icon
for Example:
"C:\Program Files\UltraVNC\vncviewer -listen -dsmplugin msrc4.dsm.
The msrc4.dsm has to be the name of your dsm file exactly. I was using the above as an example.
You might need to add -dsmplugin msrc4.dsm to your shortcut in order to use encryption
Hope this helps..

Re: Can't connect, The plugin was unable to locate the key f
That worked. Since the shortcut already had -listen 5500 I left the 5500 in and it worked.
Now to try with a friend in the outside world!
Thanks.
