After connection from remote host to viewer, I receive first black screen for ~40 seconds, then screen updates with remote host desktop. After this remote desktop does not transmit updates anymore. I see only remote desktop in same appearance as when connection started. (even the clock is not updated). I can move mouse and keypress and user at remote host said mouse moved and keys are typed on screen (notepad) but my viewer screen remains without update. I see the remote host mouse pointer on screen and it does not move, and the viewer mouse pointer is small horizontal black bar, (looks like letter "i" sideways.)
When I click Refresh Screen button at viewer I see data receiving from remote host for ~20 seconds but viewer screen does not change. Remote host user said modem TX RX lights only blink when I move the mouse.
First try was using UltraVNC viewer 1.09 RC9 (old version) then I download UltraVNC 1.0.2 standalone viewer and have same result.
INFORMATION:
SC compiled online with #2 creator "UltraVncSC based on REL1.00 (TEST)"
ZIP file contains:
background.bmp (original)
helpdesk.txt (edited)
icon1.ico (original)
icon2.ico (original)
logo.bmp (edited and same size as original)
The rc4.key is kept out of zip file, I am not using encryption.
The remote host has never installed any other version of VNC.
I try SC with another friend using remote host=win 98 and it works ok, so router / ports / network is not the problem.
Remote Host= XP home SP2 / video 1024 x 768 unknown color bits / video adapter=unknown / internet=dialup modem
Viewer= win 98 se / video 1024 x 768 32 bit color / video adapter=generic Cirrus Logic 5464 PCI / internet=broadband-static IP
Viewer started with command "D:\UltraVNC-102\vncviewer.exe -listen" and settings=Auto select best settings. Viewer does not have plugin.
Any help or suggestion???

SC PROBLEM, NO SCREEN UPDATES
Re: SC PROBLEM, NO SCREEN UPDATES
Looks like the dreaded no return packets from server that I experiance on occassion.
Does this SC that you created work elsewhere? Perhaps a different location. I have seen some isps just not pass the port traffic. Meaning there is nothing wrong with your setup it just will not work for that location.
Another thought: You connection that you are running the viewer on it is a basic network with a cable/dsl router or does it contain a complex firewall??

Re: SC PROBLEM, NO SCREEN UPDATES
I had some issue with vncviewer over WLAN and long distance, breaking the line,
could you try tabbed_vncviewer ... menu... File... Start listener

Re: SC PROBLEM, NO SCREEN UPDATES
Yes, same SC and same viewer tested with a friend (win98 <-> win98) and works ok.bevtech wrote:Does this SC that you created work elsewhere? Perhaps a different location. Re. Port traffic:
(1) Failing remote and viewer (me) both have same ISP. The ISP is not filtering ports used by VNC, ISP only filtering 25, 69, 135, 137, 138, 139. 445, 593, 4444. See http://www2.dslextreme.com/status/ (ISP status page)
(2) Failed remote has no router (uses dialup modem).
(3) I use UltraVNC RC 1.09 for 2 years to support other clients (win98 / win2000 / XP) with no problems.
Viewer running behind SPI firewall made with FreeBSD. I opened inbound port 5500 to viewer machine on LAN. Router log indicates no problem when trying to connect, traffic in/out successful.bevtech wrote:Another thought: You connection that you are running the viewer on it is a basic network with a cable/dsl router or does it contain a complex firewall??
Edit: for better explanation.

Re: SC PROBLEM, NO SCREEN UPDATES
Does the machine you are trying to SC on have fast user switching enabled??

Re: SC PROBLEM, NO SCREEN UPDATES
Probably yes, I dont know for certain but it is "out of the box default" install. I saw the machine one time in person, noticed it boots directly to desktop, but that could be only 1 login account exist on machine.bevtech wrote:Does the machine you are trying to SC on have fast user switching enabled??
Re: SC PROBLEM, NO SCREEN UPDATES
If Xp home I think the default setting is fast user switching enabled
have them disable it then try your single click..

Now trying same SC with another friend having XP. Need to wait for Tuesday to reach SC remote user with problem for more testing.
Will post results.
Re: SC PROBLEM, NO SCREEN UPDATES
Update after more testing:
Test with a friend, Me=viewer 1.0.2 / win98 (same as before)
Remote=SC / XP SP2 on Dell laptop / screen 1024 x 768+ 32 bit color / wifi / dsl
Tried to reproduce problem by choosing mouse pointer "3D Bronze" and Fast User Switching=ON. Connection good, only error happens when trying "Select single window" viewer crashed after remote window selected.
Later, test with machine having problem in original post.
1. Ask remote user to disable active desktop. Still has screen not update problem.
2. Ask remote user to change mouse pointer to windows default. New problem on connection-- I see black viewer window while remote desktop data is transmitting for ~30 seconds, then I see remote desktop for ~1 second, then viewer close by itself. No error displayed on viewer or remote.
3. Ask remote user to turn off Fast User Switching. Same error as #2.
Any suggestion welcome.
Edit: Tested with XP machine having problem, and tabbed viewer 1.29 but problem is the same, the remote host does not seem to send screen updates. The chat feature works on both remote and viewer.
