Hi
I have UltraVNC setup and everything is fine. However, I noticed a unusual quirk. When I access my computer remotely using my webbrowser or UltraVNC viewer I cannot change my ZoneAlarm settings.
I was over a friends house and I wanted to transfer some files from my FTP server (which I just installed). I realized my FTP server wasn't on. I thought, "no problem, UltraVNC is on, I'll use that to remotely start my FTP server". I logged on using UltraVNC and started my newly installed FTP server. Immediatly a ZoneAlarm popup appeared informing me that my FTP server was trying to act as a server. This is perfectly normal since I had just installed the server. I tried to click "Allow" but nothing happened. I thought my computer might have frozen so I tried opening other windows. I was successfully able to do this. I was successfully able to everything but close that annoying popup. I clicked on the systray ZoneAlarm icon and the ZoneAlarm GUI popped up. I was able to navigate the menus but I was not able to change any settings. I saw the same behavior when I logged on using UltraVNC viewer (as opposed to the browser I was using) Is this normal? Is there a fix for this? Thanks.

Re: Can't adjust Zonealarm settings remotely
I noticed that thread relates to a failure to connect to the VNC server. I don't have that problem. My UltraVNC server is set up fine. I have the ports properly forwarded and I can easily access my computer from a remote computer at any time. My issue isn't connecting to my computer remotely via UltraVNC.
My problem is that I cannot change my ZoneAlarm firewall settings from the remote computer. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Can't adjust Zonealarm settings remotely
Scape, unfortunately, it's ZoneAlarm hooking into the hardware drivers for keyboard.sys and mouse.sys (or whatever they are for your system) and checking if the input that it's getting is actually from the physical inputs or not. This is a safety thing, so in case somebody remote connects to your computer, like you're doing, and wants to set something up to run as a server, they can't allow it, only you can when you get home. You're going to either need to make sure to turn ZoneAlarm off, or configure it ahead of time before you head to work as there is no option to disable this check. There may be a way to fool it, but I wouldn't know how to go about it, (see my statement about checking the drivers, 2+2=Success.)
Oh, and if you think you're going to be "smart" and kill zaclient.exe, say goodbye to your connection to your computer, the vsmon.exe service will LOCK DOWN your connection, you'll see your computer on the network from the router, but that's just at hardware level, all software will be locked out from being able to hit the internet.

Re: Can't adjust Zonealarm settings remotely
Uncheck "Protect the ZoneAlarm client" in Overview => Preferences
You cannot uncheck this option remotely.
