SC was working now doesn't

I had setup an SC and it was working fine. I had used it with several different people with no issues. Then I tried to help someone and it did nothing. I went to canyouseeme to check port 5500 and got the error "connection failed, error reading protocol version" Nothing changed on my computer that I can think of save downloading Windows Updates. Any ideas?

Did you restart your computer and try again??

Did your ip address change on your pc???

IP did not change and I restarted when this first occurred, actually this happened two weeks ago and just decided to post. I tried turning of AV, turned off firewall/ ICS service, tried running regmon and filemon to see if I could pinpoint what was happening. I don't run any firewalls save what is on the router and there haven't been any changes made to that either. Like I said, the only thing I can think of that has been done is to download MS patches.

He use one or 2 two different SC
it is same SC lunched from your partner for connect to your UltraVNC viewer ?

Same SC as before. But that aside, I can not even check a port that the viewer is listening on anymore, I launched it with the default and also tried launching it using a different port which I forwarded. The ports show as open on canyouseeme but the viewer throws that error. So it's more of a viewer problem then it is the SC problem.

could you check there no "ghost" of vncviewer to your task manager ?
close process of all your vncviewer to your task manager before retry.

Are you running more then one flavor of VNC on your pc?? Just a thought..:)

No, and I just double checked to be sure. I also checked the event log, caused the error and checked the event log again. I can't find anything except the error message that comes up when I check the listening port.

Also I am at work but this is bugging me. I am trying to think of what could of stepped on the program. I had Dameware on and removed it is the only thing I can think of in anyway related that might possibly have changed since when it worked and when it stopped.I had Real Vnc but that was gone before I started using this. I am ready to uninstall, remove anything in the registry that says *vnc* and reinstall. Unless you can think of any .dll's I can look for and replace.

I would do a complete uninstall reboot then reinstall be sure to check remove old registry settings..;)

Ok I think it's my ISP although canyouseeme says it's not blocking the port 5500, I don't know where else to look. I installed to laptop, changed the port forwarding to that IP address and voila, same error on a freshly installed VNC. So I shut everything down and took the router out of the mix, plugging directly into cable modem. Same error!! I am going to try to contact an Optimum "real" technician through DSL Reports but I don't know if it will do any good. Thanks for sticking with me and if they get back to me I will let you know.

If that is the case change your port lower then 1024

Single click default port =5500 you can try 1000.. to do that you need to change your helpdesk.txt file
your router forwarding
and your listening port on the viewer..:)

I tried a bunch, I still get error from viewer. The port shows as open and not blocked but the viewer throws error. But with the server running I can check the ports it uses(5800 and 5900) and they show as open and no errors. If I close server, reconfig router to machine IP and test 5800 or 5900 I still get the error when I run viewer in listen on those ports. It's the strangest thing.
Anyway 5:30 comes too quick and at my age I need all the beauty sleep I can get, g'nite and will get back tomorrow.

One person on broadband reports who lives near me tried and gets the same error. I posted to the Optimum support tech forum but no answer as yet. If I don't hear back I guess I will have to give up on SC as I see other folks here have had the same error and some haven't found a fix.

I could try it when I am home again. I don't really see the point though if I can't get the viewer to work as a listening device on any port.

if you use uvnc.com as repeater, you don't listening anything. the listener become the repeater on uvnc.com

Now I am confused, does the link above setup a repeater type of SC that I can then send to users? I haven't really had time to check it out after work yet.

Just an update to this issue.
I have gotten the cable company engineering guys involved and they realize that while it is something wrong with the application itself, something on our end changed from when it was working to when it stopped. They are looking into what that might have been as I have narrowed down date when it last worked. If they come back with anything will let you know.

I still don't see anybody who has gotten a solution to those error messages that the viewer throws out.
