Just curious,

What happens to the UltraVNC server that is connected to a EchoServer in the event that the EchoServer is rebooted or the EchoServer Service is restarted? Does the UltraVNC server automaticly reconnect to it? Or does it have to manual reconnect?

I am using my own echoserver with ultra's viewer. ( have not tried the newer package yet but will this eek). I do notice a speed slowdown cruising thru the echoserver. Anyone else notice this?

I always use the reverse connect but have been running the echoserver so I don't have to forward ports for my viewers. Makes me able to access machines from anywhere instead of from my one pc. Just not happy with the slowdown. I also need to move the echoserver to another machine to see if speed increases.

Heya. Yes, there is some addtive latency due to echoWare/echoServer, and that's what causes that delay. We're working on minimizing the latency, which you can try out by updating the echoWare DLL on both sides of the connection to this one.

I hope that helps!

I currently run my own echoserver but use echovnc. You are saying with the new 1.02 server and viewer I can use them and connect thru my echoserver? I don't see where the echoserver details are entered?

sbest wrote:Heyaz. We just finished integration of the echoWare DLL with the recent UltraVNC 1.02 release. You can download the installer or download the source from our FTP site.

As many of you know...echoWare is the essential component of EchoVNC, allowing firewall-friendly access to VNC Servers behind unconfigured firewalls, routers or web-proxies. As EchoVNC really just creates tunnels to existing VNC installations, it makes sense to integrate echoWare directly with VNC viewers and servers. But echoWare just helps with the connection -- everything you can do with a "direct" UltraVNC connection, you can also do with an echoWare-assisted one.

More information about the open-source echoWare DLL is available in the echoWare SDK.

To get it all working ... simply load an echoServer entry into either the viewer or server GUI -- on the server, it's underneath "Admin Properties" when you right-click on the service-tray icon. On the viewer (both the traditional viewer and the tabbed viewer), it's in the Options screen. By default, echoWare will use our free demo echoServer at "demo.echovnc.com". Or you can download your own, for Windows, Linux, or FreeBSD.

Hope you find it all useful!

Heya; sorry for not being clear: the echoWare enhancements to UltraVNC are not (yet?) in the main 1.02 release, but in a modified release, available here.

To load the echoServer information into UltraVNC:

1. Once the Server is running in the service tray, right-click on it and choose "EchoServer Properties..."

2. In the Viewer, choose "Options" and click on the EchoServer tab.

Hope that helps!

This is it for me. Thanks dude. I changed my installer to use this echo enabled version and it works like a dream. Just logged into two customers that the reverse connect would not work. Sweet!
Thanks again.

Scott,
I see where the settings are going in the registry once I manually setup the echoserver, username and password.

I built an installer with Innosetup and have all the ultra server settings working great but when I push a default echoserver setup into the registry it's there in the registry but not in the setup un echo properties of the server. Not sure what I'm doing wrong?

Any input on the echo portion of the ultra in regards to the registry would be a big help.
Thanks again for a great product!

I try to install UltraVNC 1.02 with echoWare.
Everythings seems to be ok for the server (menu echoware), but when I Start the Viewer, the button "Option" doesn't do anythings :( .
It is then impossible to do anything with the echoWare part!
Someone has any idea? I tried to reinstall but it doesn't change anything
I had UltraVNC 1.02 previously install , could it come from here?

I have a second question, what is the advantage of UltraVNC 1.02 with echoWare compare to UltraVNC with the repeater? Because in each case you have to open the correct port on the firewall. For echoware: 1328

Thanks for your help!

So, now I have found where are the options, I have also install an echoserveur on my Network. 8)
But I allways don't succed to connect.

Heyaz. The RC10 release of UltraVNC-with-echoWare is now available.
Installer is here, source is here.

In this latest release, we worked on the following:

1. Uses the latest echoWare DLL, with improved latency performance
2. Improved VNC file-transfer reliability
3. Added a "See Who's Available" window, to see a list of users who
are available for a VNC Session via an echoServer connection.
Just double-click on a name to start a connection. This feature
requires the latest echoServer version, available here.

We're working on supporting #3 for the Linux echoServer as
well, but it's not ready yet.

As always, feel free to shoot over any questions or suggestions
for improvement.

cheers,
Scott

I installed UltraVNC and Echoserver from the links above.

First i tried to use the port I used before to connect using my LAN-pcs but via the router (i.e. connecting using the external IPaddress). Didn't work

Then I added another rule in Firewall (Zyxel 2602H modem) allowing to fireware VNC(TCP:5900) to be forwarded to a certain PC and also added 5900 in the NATtable

Now I started ES, started the server and tried to check using port 5900, but http://www.canyouseeme.org/?submit=Check&port=5900 says no connection can be obtained

what do I need to do to get it working?

Jack:

Heya. Sorry that you got a little confused: once you're connected to the echoServer from both sides of the connection (ie, from both the Viewer and the Server), you won't need to adjust the firewall settings at all. That's the point. :)

Before you setup your own echoServer, I suggest connecting the Viewer and the Server to our "demo echoServer" at "demo.echovnc.com" with the password "demo2007". Then you can see it working.

Once it's working, you can (if you want) setup your own echoServer. By default, it listens to TCP 1328, so if you install it "behind" a firewall or router, you'll have to handle the port-forwarding setup for that. Or, you can skip installing your own, and just use the demo one. :)

hope that helps,
Scott

Hello,Scott:
I'm interested in this software, I find it is very useful. But I want to change the source code for my personal use.
I want to run it without config the echoserver Address. I want to run it with a existing EchoServer. For Example,a server name is "192.168.0.83",the port is "1328",the username is "test",the password is "test".
I want to use this Echoserver without configing, but only click the Winvnc.exe file.I edit the source file "EchoServerParamDlg.cpp,ConnectionData.cpp" change some param ,but I fail to achieve my goal. How can I do that? Can you help me?
Another question is how can I forbid the echoWinvnc.log file generating.I edit the file "PreDefine.h" at the "define DEFAULT_LOG_FLAG 0" .But it seems unhelpful. How can I do that?
I'm a Chinese Student, I really like Ultravnc. I like your work with echoware adding.
My Email is : herui123@sina.com, you can send to my mailbox.
Happy new year!

I'm just testing out this stuff.
I didn't get the demoserver address working so good yesterday.
only one time it said connected.

however I have now put up my own test server.
and now it connects fine.

I'm alittle confused on how this works.
you set up a group. the group has a password.
and clients, and the helpdesk support force use the same password?
can't a client just use the same password, and act as a support guy then?

Thor:

Heya. Yes, you have the idea: you create a connection Group,
and give that Group a password. Anyone who knows the password
can join that connection Group, and anyone in the Group can
establish connections to each other.

Once the connection is established, of course, there's a VNC
password prompt, just like normal. So the whole echoServer
thing just helps with making the connection; it's all normal
VNC after that.

cheers,
Scott

ahh I see.
so to make this a little more secure, one could make one group private, and then add the support guys as "see all users"?
then all the clients can have the same package with the same password, but can't connect to each other and can not act as the support guy..
then the support guy can see all clients, and connect to them, and help out...

When you ping the server, what's the response time? The demo server to me is less than 30mS. No performance issues, if less than 50.

Re: UltraVNC 1.02 with echoWare repeater

well as I said it's a virtual machine. so it could be that.
I tested the pchelpware repeater on the same virtual machine, and that connection is running at a acceptable speed.

I have only tested the echoware-repeater in a LAN envirment, so the ms is 1 or less

I will do some more tests.

Edit:
Okey, running it on vmware server did speed it up a little, but still the screen refreshing is way to slow. but this is perhaps something to do with vnc? (it runned slower on microsoft virtual pc)
