Recommended SC Ports for Firewall Bypass?

Post by roadsweeper »

Hi all

My first post here so apologies if this is a stupid question!

I have set up a customised version of UltraVNC SC and have proved it inherently works. However, for some of my clients it never connects, presumably because their corporate firewall blocks even outgoing traffic on the port (5500) I have configured it to use.

Can anyone recommend another port to utilise that is more commonly open on corporate firewalls, or is this just one of those things I'll have to put up with?

My second question is, if I used SC with SSL-VPN technology would that get around this problem in that SC would route through the SSL-VPN port (443) which is almost always open?

Thanks,

roadsweeper.

i have exactly the same problem.

SC is working fine for most of my customers but for some corparate accounts it doesnt connect.
I changed it to the 443 port, but was unable to connect also. (have to test it with some more customers)
i have been looking at repeaters as well but not sure if this is the solution for this corporate firewall issue.

What is the best setup for making connection through a corporate firewall at client site?

because some their have a proxy at office.

you should use for this purpose: port 443 or 8080 allowed for proxy.
SCIII with the -sslproxy trough repeater_ssl

and sometime, fail because the user who use SC have a 3D mice pointer instead the classic windows mice pointer.

thanks for your reply

i have managed to setup a connection in my lan based on SCIII port 443 and a local repeater (distributer5)

i did some testing with the newest repeaters 1.1.0.4. (distributer107) and 1.2.2.1
unfortunately i cant connect when i use these repeaters as soon as i start vncviewer_ssl i get the error: proxy connection failed - error reading version

as soon as i start distributer5 its working fine

Do i need other files for use with these repeaters?

you mentioned to use repeater_ssl, are the repeaters that i mentioned above the right thing or am i mixing up some things here?

Thanks,

yes

vncviewer_ssl work only with distributer5.exe or repeater_ssl.exe and SCIII

thanks again for your reply.

its working ok but what i dont understand is why this is a better setup in relation to firewalls then the 'normal 'SC with a connection directly to the viewer

as i understand when using a repeater both the viewer and server are doing outbound traffic and the repeater connects both (dont understand this you need to have incomming traffic to see something?)

when a SC is used as server then customer connect directly to viewer instead of the repeater. Probally im losing the
point here but dont see why the repeater solution is better for firewall issues as on my own site i can control all the ports etc.

cant find any doc that is explaining the basic concepts of the repeater.
can you help me?

thanks
