WinXP to WinXP

Post by LouisJJames »

I'm a bit stumped... especially since UltraVNC works so well in so many environments. However when using a WinXP Pro (viewer) to a WinXP Pro (server), I have issues. Here is my basic problem:

I use my WinXP Pro to connect to remote systems that are also WinXP Pro. When I first connect to that client system, I immediately login without any problems but then my system seems to "lockup". For example:

1.- I connect to the remote system
2.- I enter username and password (using ms logon for authentication)
3.- I know "logon" the actually system.
4.- I then get either a black system or my system seems to lock up.

I know that the remote is not locking up because I ask the user what the remote machine is doing. They say it is working correctly.

If I minimize the viewer and wait about 2 - 3 minutes, everything seems to stabilize but sometimes does not. Sometimes it is very pokey.

However, if I disconnect and then immediately reconnect, everything works well. It's fast and wonderful.

I don't have this problem with remotes that are Win2K, Win2k Servers, Win98 or even Win95. Just XP Pro (don't know about home).

Any thoughts are suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all

Louis James

If you read the FAQ .....

If the remote user is still logged in (Fast User Switch), then when you login you'll get a black screen.

Have the user completely log out (Log Off rather than Switch User).
