I'm also curious if you like the "Shared Key" method of the original MSRC4 plugins, or the "SALTED Password" method of the new Beta plugins.

I use only for test purpose for this main reason:
I'm not paranoiac about security issue.

I don't use in my soho private business for this reason so because is not confidential data (private customer)
I prefer performance than more slowdown screen refresh remote support due encryption.

When I use it for demo with friends for tell UVNC can be used safely with encryption plugin.
I prefer use encryption that use less cpu ressource.
so
without pre shared key = ARC4 (the good one without lost time of exchange pre shared key)
with shared key = MSRC4 inside SC or only home use with full ultravnc

That only my opinion

Sean,

As you certainly know I absolutely love the AES-Plugin! I think it's a) the most secure one and b) the one with the brightest future. Let's say RC4 is getting old... 0:-)

Best regards,

Cobra

I use the plugin, but several encounter stability problems. :|

I think AES surer than RC4 and I do not see large differences of performances on PIII 450 MHz - 192 MB.

I'd love to hear about the stability problems. Details?

BTW AESV2 and ARC4 use the exact same code except for the call into OpenSSL.

I voted for MSRC4 "NoReg" because it's the one I use most. (version 1.18 has never given me any problems.)

I've also used the AES, but I have had trouble with it occasionally.

I used to use the MSRC4 plugin until SALT was removed. Now I use ARC4.

SALT
was added to MSRC4plugin between release 1.1.8 to 1.2.1
and SALT removed to final build MSRC4Plugin_noreg 1.2.2.0

I MISS the _reg version plugin. And I love pre shared keys (salted PW on top of it if you want).
For the viewer it is essential for me to be able to select the key from the gui, since every company I administer gets a different preshared key, and modifying the environment or registry by hand is a hassle.
The environment variable method is IMHO too unsecure, for the service it has to be the global environment which cannot be protected from reading.

I use No-Reg. Have tried the others - all work ok. No reg seems easiest.
I also like the pre-shared key file method but the password only suits me for low security stuff.
