Machine reboots on Ctrl+Alt+Del

Post by suniltantry »

Hi,

I have tried using Ultra Vnc and on a couple of machines and on some i have windows 2000 with sp4 installed and when i press the ctrl+alt+Del button on the vnc viewer the machine automatically reboots. Or sometimes the screen is frozen on the crtl+alt+del button and i am no longer in control of the machine. Please suggest.

spyware or/and adware removed ?

All station failed win2k sp4 use UltraVNC installed as service system ?
because if winvnc running as user mode, alt+ctrl+del will close vncviewer if their screen saver ask password on server side.

Hi,
The machine has been freshly installed/reimaged with win2k sp4. There are n softwares installed other then the deafult softwares like Msword and win zip. VNC is installed as a system service and also registerd as system service. There are no spyware/adware installed.

This problem occours when i am working on that machine and with the viewer if i press ctrl+alt+del the screen on the viewer stays/freeses while the remote machine will be rebooted. Please help.

on compute hosting vnc server and happen buggy,
try temporary disable video card extra feature like:

- ATI Hydravision
- Nvidia nView Desktop Manager
- Matrox PowerDesk
- Intel Hotkey

What tell you the event viewer - application or system at vnc server side ?

Same problem here... CTRL+ALT+DEL = reboot

Post by Projectope »

Hello,

I'm having the same problem on my server. We've had UltraVNC installed for many months and it only started doing this now. The only thing that was changed was the installation of the regular Windows Updates, so I'm guessing that one of them is causing a new incompatibility with the Video Driver (since this runs in Kernel mode, I think that only the driver can be responsible for a system reboot).

Can you look into it? We have a fully patched Windows 2000 Server SP4, UltraVNC v1.01 and Video Driver 1.00.19/1.00.17/1.00.17.

Thank you.

Sorry to bump an old topic, but this is still an issue with Windows 2000 Server SP4 in UltraVNC 1.0.2. Windows 2000 Workstation SP4, Windows XP SP2, and Windows 2003 SP(whatever's the latest, I forget) all work fine.

Same problem for me using Windows 2000 sp4. I've seen different suggestions as to the cause; Microsoft patch, oudated BIOS, kernel mode drivers. Anyone got more info?

No suggestions. I've gone back to RealVNC in the meantime.
