Good day,
Here is my 2 cents worth regarding the repeater package. If time and money were not an issue and we all lived in the garden of eden, this is how I believe the repeater package should work...
1. Client is able to download the vncserver prepackaged and it will auto start a reverse session to the repeater. With this it would not ask for an ID number, instead, it would prompt simply for a name, or reference ID, (which it would store on future connects), or would read the computer host name and use this for it's ID.
2. The vncviewer could connect to the box running the repeater package and review which PC's are requesting connection. You would select the PC, which is displaying the reference info (look at 1).
3. Connect would then be established. If connect is lost by either the server or viewer, the other part of the connection would stay put with a time-out of lets say 10 minutes.
4. If the server is disconnected for any reason other then manual disconnect by the viewer station or local user, then it would autoreconnect to the repeater. (This includes reboots).
5. As the viewer station, I can send a reboot command to the vncserver computer and it would perform the reboot and autoreconnect with the repeater. (I know, more to do with the vncserver then repeater code). Also allow me to reconnect to the server in safe mode???
6. Also as the viewer station, I can move between pc's that I am servicing.
7. As a small extra, have the ability of pre-installed server boxes to establish a link to the repeater and hold the link open until I am able to establish the other side of the link between my viewer and the repeater.
8. Another small extra, have the repeater running on Linux instead of windows...
That's my nirvana,
Cheers,
Frank.

I know
There is still a lot of work on the repeater...
The repeater should be build from 3 applications.
1) Repeater
2) and 3) server/viewer helper application
The helper applications make a connection between them,
auto trying direct/invers or with a repeater use.
After the repeater connection is made, the user does not see
the difference, for a lan-lan, lan-nat or nat-nat connection.
Most users are common to press buttons and just expect that all works full automatic.
The current market is more then 85% in hand of MS, and still
increasing. As unix administrator, i continous see company's moving to MS. The market gain for linux are company's that move from Solaris or Aix to linux.
A linux repeater will be less usefull to less people then a windoz version.

Things that make you go hmmmm
I was noticing for the very first time, when you have a reverse connection occur from server to viewer (no repeater), on the top of the viewer window, it tells you the computer name and local IP address. Now, if the server is sending this information, why not allow this to be the Identifier for the connection to initiate a reverse connection to a repeater. Then, when you connect a viewer to the repeater, it will query you on which connection you would like to accept! Now that would be perfect! This way, you could open a seperate vncviewer window for each reverse connection to the repeater, as necessary, and select the sessions that are still waiting connection.
That would be cool!
That would be cool!
