SC Server SAYS it connects but disappears i.e. No Icon?

Post by jksmurf »

Hi,

I'm a complete beginner, so please bear with me. I have VNC Working from Home to Office No Problem, so am using the same port to accept an SC connection from a recently compiled SC Server.

Compiled OK, I run it, click, and for a millisecond or so I see the balloon which says "Conenction Active; Now visible to the remote PC blah blah". The icon the disappears and that's it.

I have read through a bunch of posts but none describes this error, most have it NOT working ... mine appears to work, for a VERY brief time, but then dumps itself, no error message nix.... It doesn't stay for 5 minutes trying to connect.

I am connecting to my home PC from work, to which I can make a connection using the Viewer from Work, so port forawrds seem to work. I used VNC to check Event Viewer logs on my home PC for errors. Nix. But with the SC Server at Work and the Viewer at home, no dice.

A check of the Firewall Log shows what I described above, every time.

Any ideas? Simple ones?

Kristian

[EDIT] I think I fixed it. I simply redirected port 5500 to my PC, in my router. I don't know why it didn't work with one of the 5800 or 5900 ports. I "think" it is because the Viewer was listening on the external port, rather than the internal one.

5500 = SC outgoing ---> vnc viewer listening 5500
5500 = vnc server outgoing ---> vnc viewer listening
5900 = vnc server listening <--- vnc viewer outgoing
5800 = vnc server listening <--- http javaviewer outgoing
