newbie help!!!! can't log in

Post by mmularski »

I've set up the server on my home machine. (I'm pretty sure that it's set up correctly!!) I need to know how to set the client up to get to this server. when I hover the mouse over the VNC icon shows the internal ip address 192.198. etc.

I've gotten my IP address from whatismyip.com and put that into the viewer, but it still doesn't seem to connect.

Any help?!?!

Thanks in advance

I'm still a bit new to this myself but...
You say your internal IP address is 192.198 etc, i assume you did this on the client pc? Which pc did you use whatismyip.com on? The IP address you need to type into the viewer (on the client PC) needs to be the IP address of the Server PC.

So when you say"I've gotten my IP address from whatismyip.com and put that into the viewer" i hope you went to that website on the server PC but entered that IP into the viewer on the client PC.

Does this make sense?

yes. the server PC is the one that I got the IP address for. Then went to the remote machine and entered in that IP address.

Do you get any error messages? Or does it just drop straight back to the desktop, closing any "viewer" windows in the process (No error message/No connectivity).

What about firewalls? Did you enable the viewer/server applications in your firewall as well as enable the ports in the firewall settings too?
