Connect using UltraVNC gives blank screen

Post by mvandere »

I'm trying to go from RealVNC to UltraVNC (1.0.1) on promises of disply speed improvement.

I have a windows XP Client trying to connect to a Windows XP SP 2 server on the same network (No firewall, etc)

When I connect I get a blank screen, whereas I should get the windows logon screen.

RealVNC works fine, as does Remote Desktop.

I am rebooting without RealVNC autostarted, starting UltraVNC server using Remote Desktop then disconnecting and trying to go in using UltraVNC.

Strangely enough If I start UltraVNC and then Remote desktop both work at the same time. Not exactly what I want, though.

UltraVNC server is really running as service system ?
UltraVNC setup issue if installed remotely by MS Remote Desktop

I can't if UltraVNC Service running as SYSTEM
I can if UltraVNC Service running as USER

branch password for service system
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3\Default]
"AllowProperties"=dword:00000001
"Password"=hex:d0,05,90,a0,12,99,c9,00
UltraVNC 1.0.9.6.1 (built 20110518)
OS Win: xp home + vista business + 7 home
only experienced user, not developer

I guess you are saying UltraVNC must be started as a service and cannot be started by 'double clicking' on it.

I have now installed it as a service and it works fine.
