I must be stupid someone HELP me please?

Post by techfella »

OK maybe I'm on information overload, I've read and downloaded everything I could find on this and still can't get it to work. I'll try to make this easy. I want to be able to help a elderly friend who live across town with some simple computer stuff, tutoring basically.

My computer is hooked to a Netgear Router model WGR614 via a wireless AirLink 101 card
I have a secound computer hooked to the router via Cat5 cable and is the main computer for my SBC modem (Speadstream 5100).

I have (or think I have) done the port fowarding properly and I set up the DNS account at DNYDNS.com which my router supports internally.

I was hoping to use the SCIIIbeta5 and viewer mentioned in the "Help me help my mom & dad" post in this forum.

If I read it right I should be telling my friend to download the SCIIItest5 file and put in a number up to 8 digits. I run the vcnviewer_ssl file and input the number (preseded with ID:) This should allow me to connect to his machine and viola!

What I get is nothing. Mostly the error I get is "can't connect to server".
What am I doing wrong? Should we be using the dns name I set up on DYNDNS.com? Please go easy on me if you have the answer. I'm freaking out here. I saw stuff about repeaters, video hooks and all kinds of stuff I'm not grasping. The SC is the way I want to go.

you do correct,
the most actual problem of repeater_ssl from uvnc.com is sometime hangs/down not yet updated with some errors solved on classic repeater.

repeater_ssl on uvnc work fine

Your reply is a little cryptic. Are you saying I need a repeater? OK what is that? I entered something on the viewer in the proxy box unvnc.com:443 is that what you are talking about?

you was speaking about this post above, so I was trying to answer to same question.

Your reply is a little cryptic.
Sorry, english is not my mother language but swiss french

Are you saying I need a repeater?
if your partner use SCIII_test5 he is connected to repeater on uvnc.com and you need to connect to same repeater on uvnc.com (use only for test and you can't count over full time available)

OK what is that?
repeater is an connector identifiy by your ID number between yourself vncviewer_ssl and your partner of SCIII_test5 and connect togueter.

I entered something on the viewer in the proxy box unvnc.com:443 is that what you are talking about?
yes,
is written at left can: with checkbox enabled [X] proxy/repeater :-) of only Ultra vncviewer_ssl

Thanks again. I understand a bit more now. Sounds like I need to set up a repeater on my system. I saw several post about that so I guess I better look into this next.
