I can't get SC to work with a plugin

Post by nowthenvnc »

I have been using Ultra VNC for a long time but I have just made Single Click work for the first time. I think I must be turning into a geek because I was very excited by this. It is going to make life a lot easier.
However, I am falling at the final hurdle. As I see it, there are two options when someone uses SC. They can either choose to connect without or with encryption. When they double click on the top one (without) I get a message on my PC asking if I want to allow the connection. I click on OK and Jackpot!
If they double click on the one with encryption then I get a message saying that I have the wrong dsmplugin or something. When I customised SC, I created a key called rc4.key. I have copied that into C:\Program Files\UltraVNC and renamed it. I have several keys so they all have different names. Also, as we have downloaded different versions I have given the plugins different names.

Is the plugin provided as part of the creation process?
Does it matter that my plugin and key have different names?

If I double click on the listening VNC Viewer icon in the system tray, then it shows me the usual vnc viewer dialogue box. Even if I enable the dsmplugin, whenever I open it again it is always unticked. Is this where my problem lies?

Thank you for any help.

Another question

Which creator am I supposed to use? Is it "UltraVncSC based on RC23" or the one based on "REL1.00". I think I chose the first.

Did you follow Dwalf's
step by step

[topic=4606][/topic]

You do need to include your key file in your zip to make it work

It was a good tutorial but it didn't include anything about plugins I'm afraid, so my question still stands.

The error message

Post by nowthenvnc »

Connection failed - Invalid protocol!

Possible Causes:

- You've forgotten to select a DSMPlugin and the Server uses a DSMPlugin
- Viewer and Server are not compatible (they use different RFB protocoles)

What is your syntax in your single click helpdesk.txt?

You need to create an rc4.key file and include in your zip file that you use to create the single click.exe

Connection 1
-id 1234 -plugin -connect 192.168.0.1:5500 -noregistry

Something like that?? note the -plugin switch and your key file has to be in your c:\programs\Ultravnc\ folder

Along with enabling encyption...( note have to use the noreg plugin and they must be of the same version

if you want to use same SC with and without dsmplugin and vncviewer listening both connections (meaning unsecure and secure), you need use 2 different ports.

SC (server part):
little content helpdesk.txt

[HOST]
Internet support
-connect 123.123.123.123::5501 -noregistry

[HOST]
Internet support encryption
-plugin -connect 123.123.123.123::5500 -noregistry

vncviewer (viewer part)

vncviewer -listen 5501
(this is the first viewer listening internet support)

vncviewer -dsmplugin MSRC4Plugin_NoReg.dsm -listen 5500
(this is the second viewer listening internet support encryption on same computer or another computer)
UltraVNC 1.0.9.6.1 (built 20110518)
OS Win: xp home + vista business + 7 home

As you can see, I have been experimenting on our LAN at home.

I have no real desire to have the option of having both kinds of connection available (with and without encryption). I just used the helpdesk.txt and altered the IP address. I can just get rid of the one without encryption if that will sort the problem.

What is the purpose of the command line entries? I just ran Ultra VNC viewer in listening mode but I don't think I can tell it to use a dsmplugin, or at least whenever I double click on the icon, I find that it is unticked.

When I try the command line thing:
C:\"Program Files"\UltraVNC\vncviewer -dsmplugin C:\"Program Files"\UltraVNC\MSRC4PluginMargi2005-10-05.dsm -listen 5500
I get "Invalid VNC server specified".

Am I supposed to use the command line to run vncviewer in listening mode or am I supposed to do it from the start menu?

Do I need to put quotes around Program Files?

If I type:
C:\"Program Files"\UltraVNC\vncviewer -listen 5500
I get "Failed to get server address".

yes, because the default shortcut available from menu is only listening on port 5500 without dsmplugin support
so, you can create your own shortcut vncviewer listening customized port and dsmplugin
nowthenvnc wrote:Do I need to put quotes around Program Files?
look below working example:

prerequesite for encryption plugin:
the MSRC4plugin_noreg.dsm need to be on same folder of vncviewer and not inside subfolder plugin

success loading dsmplugin
"%programfiles%\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe" -listen 5500 -dsmplugin MSRC4Plugin_NoReg.dsm

MSCR4Plugin_noreg.dsm

Post by nowthenvnc »

I hadn't noticed the fact that the Helpdesk.txt had this line in it:
-plugin -connect 192.168.1.102:5500 -noregistry

Is that telling it to use the MSRC4Plugin_noreg.dsm plugin when it compiles the executable file?

I had been using MSRC4Plugin.dsm with my vncviewer and it still worked. Why is that? Are both plugins compatible?

Pathnames

Post by nowthenvnc »

I struggled with the pathnames. It still didn't like the name of the path to the plugin. However, this has been resolved with the following batch file:
c:
cd \Program Files\UltraVNC
vncviewer -dsmplugin MSRC4Plugin.dsm -listen 5500
That works fine.

I have read his website. I still have a couple of questions. He says that any feedback should go to:

While you're there....I have been reading around this forum a bit. I think I read something that you wrote about copying the MSRC4Plugin_noreg.dsm into the same folder as the Helpdesk.txt and change its name to MSRC4Plugin.dsm and then compile it. Did I read that right? I thought that the Creator was inserting the MSRC4Plugin_noreg.dsm
What's really going on there?

There the story follow about the confusion for everyone between the two MSRC4 dsmplugin.

Compatible, yes. The same, no. MSRC4Plugin.dsm is looking to read/write stuff in the registry. It will NEVER find the key file. It probably blows up big-time trying to create a key file if the registry isn't setup correctly...

SC, it has been renamed "MSRC4plugin" (Why ? One day maybe fixed so this bracket can be removed and forgotten
