works on lan, but not on internet

Post by nightmare001 »

setup:
computer connects into NETGEAR WGT624 V2 wireless router (ethernet). which is connected to Westell Black router box (DSL)
on the Westell modem, i port forwarded 443 TCP/UDP. on Netgear router, i also forwarded 443 tcp/udp ports. when that didnt work, i set my computer up through the netgear router as a default dmz server (to take me out of router ip address).

problem:
when i have my laptop on the same router as my server, i am able to connect by connecting the view to its lan ip address: 192.168.x.x.

When i have my laptop connected to the internet outside of this router, i type in my ip adress::port "68.40.3.x::443". I keep getting connection failed. I dont know what else to do. I have the ports forwarded, and yet it still dont let me connect. I have my windows firewall disabled, as well as my PC-Cillin firewall disabled alltogether, im bypassing the wireless routers firewall, and i have my bellsouth routers firewall set to forward that port. i dont know what ive messed up in, can someone please help?[/code]

"68.40.3.x::443"
What the problem ? the port number is not same and would never work

you need to use same port forwarded and same port from vncviewer_ssl

not necessary to open UDP, TCP is enough !

When you are outside,
vnc viewer from laptop you reach 68.40.3.x::443 pointed to your
Westel modem bridged to Westell Black router box (DSL) and then routed/forwarded to NETGEAR WGT624 V2 wireless router (ethernet) and finally to computer hosting VNC server.

you forgot NAT routing or bridging somewhere for incoming connections.
please review your network

what the software do you use ?

UltraVNC server 1.0.1 or SCIII ?
with or without repeater 1.0.7 or repeater_ssl ?
UltraVNC viewer 1.0.1 or vncviewer_ssl 1.0.1 or tabbed vncviewer 1.2.8 ?

as of right now, i have just the server 1.0.1 installed, do i need anything else? hers a look at my servers network setup. i thought this would have been enough. again.. windows firewall is set to off, same as PC-Cillan. (not shown in images: netgear router for 192.168.0.5[server] is set as DMZ server so it should be out of its firewall)

the way i have my network set up:

Code: Select all

             Wall
                |
                |
                V
         Westell (dsl)
                 |
                 |
                 V
           Netgear
               | |
               | |
               V V
          Server | Laptop(when on network)
As u can see: Ultra - port 443 is forwarded to my computer. 192.168.0.5
Image
just added the port switch below since the one above didnt work. this didnt solve the problem eather.
Image
My Westell(DSL) modem. forwarding the ports yet again to my computer - displaying computers name as Game (i now changed my computer name for security, as well as my lan port)

P.S. thanks a lot redge for u hastly reponce, it is very much appreciated. :D

ok.. making headway.. found out whats wrong, but i dont know how to fix it.

i decided to try to plug the server directly into the westell router, taking out my wireless router for the time-being.

Code: Select all

 Wall
                |
                |
                V
         Westell (dsl)
                 |
                 |
                 V
           Netgear
               |
               |
               V
          Server
i then took my laptop from an external source and was successfully able to connect to my server by means of port 5900, i then configured the server to connect through port 443, as well as my viewer. I made sure that port 443 was open through westell routers firewall, and... it didnt let me connect. I need to find a way to be able to get my netgear wireless router back on so that my laptop can connect to it again, as well as allow connections through 443.
Any help would be appreciated

update the firmware of your netgear, maybe bug of NAT routing
I never succes on port 443,
[ ]Accept Socket Connection is automatic unchecked when I use port 443 !
I think is because port 443 is reserver only for SSL connection not unsecure connection like port 80 or 5900 until connection is encrypted by DSMplugin

mm.. were gettin there.. i just tested port 80 (didnt change any other settings) and it let me through.(i had the dsm plugin installed previous). however, i am still unable to connect through port 443, which is required for when i bring my laptop to my office building, it is the only open port. is there any way to tunnel it? and if so what software would i need/how do i go about setting it up?

edit: and my firmware is up to date

SCIII use SSL port
(winvnc light and use port 443 SSL port
perfect for helpdesk, remote support someone need assistance.
but not for remote control your own computer from yourself

Repeater??

Post by Random_Thoughts »

If you try repeater you can use any ports you choose plus make it accessable to the internet.(Make sure you password it) after you have to have it running on your server PC and forward the port requested on your modem to send it directly to your host. There is a way to also use two modems as well you'll have to set up multiple forwards though. Internet--->modem--->2nd modem---->Server. It is easily explained here though.

Good Luck, I hope I was a little help.
