File Transfer Crashes

Post by CYaBro »

Hi I'm new to this UltraVNC and it's great!

I have setup UltraVNC 1.0.1 server on a machine at work. Work has a 256k/128k ADSL connection.
I have done the port forwarding in the router of port 5900.
I am also using the DSMPlugin - MSRC4Plugin.dsm and have created a 128bit rc4 key.

On my machine at home I have installed UltraVNC 1.0.1 Viewer and the above plugin with the rc4 key.
Home only has a 56k modem as ADSL is not available in the area (I'm in New Zealand!)
I can connect to the work machine no problems and the remote control works ok.
I can start a File Transfer and can receive files no problems but when I try to send the file back after I have worked on it that's when I have problems.
It starts to transfer then at a random point it stops. I can leave it like this for 1/2 hour but nothing more happens.
I can't close vnc or do anything else on the machine, the only way to get out of it is to reset the home machine. Then I can't log back in until the work machine has been restarted as well.

I have tried the same thing from another machine that had ADSL and the file transfers are fine both ways.
I tried another modem but made no difference.
I have tried another port below 1024 as stated in some other threads.
I have tried a 56bit rc4 key.

What else could I try??

56k doesnt give you much bandwith.. The files just may not be able to transfer fast enough before timeout...:(

Downloading is fine, a file about 500kb downloads pretty quickly.
Uploading / sending back to the server starts OK and goes pretty quickly as well then just suddenly stops dead at a random point.
If I leave it for about 5 mins the internet connection disconnects!

Ok, any idea how to fix this?

I also just found out that this used to work (my wife said she has sent some files back to the work machine before) so what could have change to cause this to crash now?

I got the Exactly SAME file transfer problem

Post by pp2 »

Hi,
I am a casual user of UltraVNC.

I am having exactly the same problem that CYaBro is having.

I am in Singapore office (running Viewer) and connected to a Desktop in Thailand office (running VNC Server) over a 512K internet link, I can "pull" files from the VNC-Server machine (even several MB files), and I can send some small file (few hundred Bytes to 1.4KB file) to Server.
When I send some slightly bigger file, file transfer in my Viewer will say 100% completed, but I can see it is "not responding" from the "Task manager", and My viewer finally ended itself. On the otherside: VNC-Server, VNC-server also crashed, and I need to ask someone to restart VNC-server on the Desktop.

Pls assist if you can!!
Thanks,
PP2

Tried playing around with the speed settings, slow etc but made no difference.
I can say for sure now though that it is the home pc that is the problem because I got another test machine with a modem and set it up and it goes fine. This test machine has WinXP Home SP2 while the faulty machine has Win98SE. Would that matter?
The work machine with the VNC server is running WinXP Pro SP2.
