I am using SC with beta BETA DSM plugins, in order to remove the need to use the *.key
While standard WinVNC.exe works great with any plugin and version, I only managed to make SC work with MSRC4 plugin family. No problem, I can live with that...
The problem is that when the client running SC is Windows 2000, the only plugin that seems to work is the MSRC4 1.1.8.0_NoReg.dsm with required rc4.key file.
Any further _noreg version of the plugin, with or without an rc4.key file, fail with an "Invalid protocol!" error.
However, this does not happen when the client is Windows XP.
Anyone experience this issue?
By now the only workaround is to have two SC packages, one for XP with "no-key" MSRC4 1.1.9.8_NoReg.dsm plugin, one for W2000 with MSRC4 1.1.8.0_NoReg.dsm and rc4.key file.
I'm surprised the betas don't work. There are/were some quirks with SC, like the plugin needs to be named msrc4plugin.dsm. Are you renaming the betas properly?
If you could send me some logs I could look into it. If you set the proper environment variable before attempting a connection the client and server plugins should create log files. Send me the logs and I'll let you know if they tell me anything.

On the other hand, I do not care to move from using SC on the supported PC side to winvnc.exe or vncviewer.exe program, as long as no setup is done on the supported PC (no admin user there) and no ports to get opened on the supported PC's firewall.
Well, the log files weren't as usefull as I hoped.
I had to learn how to use SC. Basically its just a customized winvnc.exe that does the typical "reverse connection" thing. I guess I can't say I don't know SC anymore...
I tested with the soon-to-be-released MSRC4Plugin_noreg.dsm version 1.2.0 and the AESV2Plugin.dsm version 1.0.0.
Some interesting things cropped up. Here's what I found:
MSRC4 V 1.2.0 - No Key file: Had to rename the plugin from msrc4plugin_noreg.dsm to msrc4plugin.dsm. (Rudi REALLY needs to change that...). Connected without a rc4.key just for laughs. It worked. Prompted for a password and everything. I think the only reason it worked was I had Ultra already installed, so winvnc.exe found a password... This generally WON'T work. Its isn't expected to work.
MSRC4 V 1.2.0 - Generated a Key file: Had to rename the plugin from msrc4plugin_noreg.dsm to msrc4plugin.dsm. Connection worked fine.
AESV2 V 1.0.0 - No Key file: Had to rename the plugin from aesv2plugin.dsm to msrc4plugin.dsm. Prompted for password but never connected. (Protocol version error message). This is as expected. SC doesn't have a password stored anywhere, so the passwords can't ever match.
AESV2 V 1.0.0 - Generated a Key file: (keep the key file named aesv2.key) Had to rename the plugin from aesv2plugin.dsm to msrc4plugin.dsm. Connected just fine.
I didn't specifically try the ARC4Plugin.dsm version 1.0.0, but its nearly identical to AESV2, so it should work.
I'll be releasing the plugins in the next day or so.
