Fastpush stopped working all of a sudden...

Post by philodox »

I had it working perfectly, changed not a thing in the c:\fastpush directory [including the script] and now It does not work. I've pointed out the 3 new error messages with '--->' in the text below. Any Ideas?

I've looked in the script around where the Echo'es that show are and all of the commands seem fine... its baffling me as I changed nothing. I tested my local admin account on the computer in question and it still works fine.

XP SP2

is XP SP 2 installed?

No, but I dont see why that would make it stop working all of a sudden. My fastpush setup worked for a month while I was testing it, then I stopped for a while and concentrated on getting the 9x instal fixed up. When I came back to tinkering with the NT-XP instal it had stopped working for no apparent reason. :(

I did not get either of the Access Denied errors or the command failed error before. I also checked and the local admin has not changed on the computer, so it does not seem to be a rights issue. Very strange...

SP2 Defaults

Post by lenisham »

SP2 turns on the firewall by default and breaks many types of remote administration tools.

oh, I see... so SP2 would be a reason that it would stop working... now that you mention it, the computer that I am connecting to might have it [mine doesnt, but who knows]... sorry for jumping all over your suggestion earlier, it looks like it was a good one

Auto Updates & SP2

Post by lenisham »

NP in the realier response.

SP2 will be added to autoupdates, but MS has a "patch" that will block the download of SP2 from autoupdates.

well I checked and we do not have SP2 on any of our computers... we have a server that acts as our windows update for the network and they are still testing SP2 with our applications and they have not added it to the server yet.

I checked both computers that I was having the problem on and they both have SP1 and neither of them have the firewall enabled.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Seems to me that you have several different issues.
"THE C$ SHARE WAS UNAVAILABLE. ATTEMPTING TO RECREATE IT.
RMTSHARE \\machinename\C$=C
--->The command failed: 5 "

THis is an authentication issue. Apparently you do nto have access to the administrative share on that machine. You can try /user administrator <password> added to your command line option for fastpush.

The others may be an authentication issue as well. It is mosty likely something your network folks changed.

I get the same thing....access denied..even when using the admin/password combo.....the othe error I get is the "error 53"

I have user fastpush to about 45+machines with no problems..
just some others I get the acces denied even with the
/user administrator (password) line added...oh well...wish they were local but trying to push to our bookstores accross the country...

good luck philodox.....

xcmd issue??

Post by lenisham »

from http://www.darkage.co.uk/vnc/changelog.htm

"I've noticed some odd performance with Xcmd recently. If you want to use PSEXEC then you can, but you'll need to download that from the sysinternals' web site. I can't store it here for licencing reasons."

I do have psexec... I'll do a search through the script and replace all the xcmd commands.

Thanks,

Jason
