i would rather see the password field filled with the letter "l" (the lowercase letter "L") - but also using the wingdings font. this would result in a black dot for each character - just like the password fields in windows xp.

I was surprized to see the strange pipe character | for my password. What a user expects is going to be as mentioned, a astrick * or dot of some sort. Pipe symbols are just very odd.

I actually like the pipe character in the password field and hope it doesn't change. If you are that concerned about it, make a poll on the forums. It would be interesting to see how many people like it versus dislike it.

IMO the | look like a graphical glitch...

asterisk is pretty much a defacto standard, the pipe character is certainly very unusual.

Take a look at this open-source C++ project. They show the password character as dots: http://keepass.sourceforge.net/

I agree with the original poster, although I wouldn't classify this as a "bug." It's merely aesthetic, but it is peculiar looking, compared with all other password dialogs I've ever seen or used.

Developers, can we get a selectable character or style for the password text box in the VNC viewer? (This same issue is for the server's password text box as well.)

Thanks

Just for the record, this phenomenon is not restriceted to english XPs.

And yes, I also find those 'lines' rather irritating.

Same here. It's a minor, minor issue but if it's getting attention then it might as well get addressed to meet common usage. An asterisk or dot would be most intuitive.
